📖 Story comment: entertaining story, likeable characters, good pace.
One thing I enjoy about Kim Fielding's writing is the way she builds her worlds. Her words paint pictures, capture the sights and smells of the scene and easily draw me into the story. I really enjoyed the "old world" feel mixed with the magic and mystery elements of this story.
It's probably not one of my favorite Kim Fielding stories, the characters didn't grab me and keep hold like some of her more recent titles, but I still enjoyed it and will listen to it again - I feel I will probably enjoy it more the second time around because I will get to experience more of the detail now I know what's going on with the story.
🎧 Narrator comment: Nathaniel Priestley is a new narrator for me and for the most part I enjoyed his narration. The action sequences felt a little passive and I nudged up the speed to try and make them feel more exciting, but overall for the most part it was good. He has good timing, inflections and intonations, the characters each had their own voice and were easy to distinguish and there isn't any reason I wouldn't listen to another title narrated by him in the future.
