Publisher's summary

Amanda Knox spent four years in a foreign prison for a crime she did not commit. In the fall of 2007, the 20-year-old college coed left Seattle to study abroad in Italy, but her life was shattered when her roommate was murdered in their apartment. After a controversial trial, Amanda was convicted and imprisoned. But in 2011, an appeals court overturned the decision and vacated the murder charge. Free at last, she returned home to the U.S., where she has remained silent, until now.

Filled with details first recorded in the journals Knox kept while in Italy, Waiting to Be Heard is a remarkable story of innocence, resilience, and courage, and of one young woman’s hard-fought battle to overcome injustice and win the freedom she deserved. With intelligence, grace, and candor, Amanda Knox tells the full story of her harrowing ordeal in Italy - a labyrinthine nightmare of crime and punishment, innocence and vindication - and of the unwavering support of family and friends who tirelessly worked to help her win her freedom.

Many "drive way" moments

Normally, it takes me a couple of weeks to listen through a book of this length. I finished it in four days. Amazingly detailed and personal account by Amanda Knox. She describes her ordeal of wrongful conviction and a bias from the police and prosecutors who tried to fit the evidence based on their assumption of guilt made, within the first day of the investigation. Amanda and Raffeale have both been fully exonerated by the Italian Supreme Court in 2014.

unflinching memoir

after following the case throughout the years, it is wonderful to hear Amanda's firsthand accounts and explanations of her experience. i thought she took responsibility for her mistakes admirably, and always acknowledged her naïveté, for better or worse. knowing what we now do about coerced and false confessions, her story made me really wonder if I would have the strength and courage to withstand such an experience. her story is relatable to anyone who remembers what it is to be young and independent for the first time, and trying to make the right "adult" decisions. Amanda does a great job of narrating - she doesn't do character voices, but I preferred it that way, because it felt more like talking with a friend than a spoken performance. I will jump on the bandwagon and say that I would be happy to purchase and read a follow-up book about her return to everyday life.

She changed my mind...

Where does Waiting to Be Heard rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It held my attention from beginning to end. I found myself listening to it for longer periods of time than many of the other books I've listened to.

What did you like best about this story?

Hearing things from her point of view.

What does Amanda Knox bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I think hearing it in Amanda's own voice made it so much better than if I had read the book. I would highly recommend the audible version vs. reading it.

Any additional comments?

I only mildly followed this story in the media when it was happening and I have always felt like she didn't actually kill Meredith but that she was there and knew more than she was saying. When I first downloaded this book I was feeling guilty for "reading" it. I don't usually read these types of books and felt embarrassed to even tell anyone. I definitely went into it thinking she was guilty in some degree and even at the half way point I still questioned whether she was telling the truth or not. She acted so weird in the days following the murder and the fact that both she and Raffaele changed their stories really made me doubt her. She did so many things an innocent person would not do but she also did a lot of things that in my opinion a guilty person wouldn't do. It was not until they got into the DNA evidence that I started to change my mind. I now think she really is/was just a bit of a strange girl but being strange or different certainly doesn't make you guilty of murder. Everyone reacts differently to grief, tragedy, and horrific circumstances and just because she didn't act how we think she should have doesn't make her guilty. I know you do not care about my opinion of the case but I was curious before I read the book if it changed anyone's mind so that's why I included this in my review.

It was well written and moving. I found myself in tears at the end. I certainly did not expect this book to have that affect on me. There are so many life lessons that can be taken away from this book. I would highly recommend it for anyone who is curious about the case even if only a little like I was. I thought she was guilty of at least being there but she changed my mind. It will be interesting to see if any new evidence comes out in the upcoming trial.

Never bored.

This is such a sad story. I didn't know much about the story so the events were new to me. she did a wonderful job in her memoir. I looked forward to each time I got in the cat because that is when I became self absorbed with her story. Way to be strong Amanda!

Very intriguing book

I remember hearing about this case back when it happened but wasn’t too invested at the time. I downloaded this on a whim and am so glad I did! I am going to download Rafael’s book next since I saw it available and watch the Netflix documentary.

Amanda did a great job narrating and I can’t begin to imagine how difficult it must have been to have to relive it all again.

Amazing Recount of Her Life

I was interested in this story and followed it in real life. I am so sorry for all Amanda and her family went through and for poor Meredith and her family. I have a daughter the same age as these girls were at this time and it is frightening to think how taken advantage of you were. Thank you for telling you story. Life a happy life Amanda.

She changed my mind.

Any additional comments?

I went into this book not really knowing much about the story. I had heard bits and pieces in the press while it was going on. I finished the first half of the story feeling she may be guilty. Somewhere along the rest of the book, I think I understood what happened to her and felt she was telling the truth.

I am pretty cynical and for her to change my mind was quite a feat. Parents, take a lesson and do not send your immature young adults over to a foreign country..
