Twelve Years a Slave is the true story of Solomon Northup: born a free black man in New York State, and sold into slavery after being tricked in 1841.
Unable to convince anyone he is not a slave, Solomon spent 12 years in bondage, before finally being set free.
Northup’s memoir, recounting details of the slave markets and the harsh life on plantations, was used in the struggle to abolish slavery in the United States.

Anger - Sadness - Freedom
The book is done in a way that makes you understand, more than ever, the time in history that all this took place. Slavery is no more, thank GOD, its more about his strength, his resolution to get free, there are good people and bad people all over this world. Thank you for telling your story.
The narrator was perfect!!! such
Most of it, it held my interest for sure.
A must read.
After all the good things I had heard of the film, but not seen it, I thought the book would be interesting. The narrative style was dated and dire and the reader was mannered and hard to tolerate. Abandoned the listen soon after the start.
