Publisher's summary

Writer for the New York Times and GQ, Mark Adams is also the acclaimed author of Mr. America. In this fascinating travelogue, Adams follows in the controversial footsteps of Hiram Bingham III, who’s been both lionized and vilified for his discovery of the famed Lost City in 1911 - but which reputation is justified?

Absolute MUST for anyone interested in Maxhu Picchu !!

I really enjoyed this book. Well written , great humor somewhat self deprecating and great source of good historical info. Don't miss this one, especially if you're traveling to Machu Picchu. Thank you to the author for such a unique look at this great mystery.

a tiny bit disjointed in that you needed to have

needed to have some previous knowledge of Gingham's adventures. it was fun if you stay engaged

Great history but went a little long.

Really enjoyed the mix of history and story telling of his journey in Peru. Some very humorous moments! But it dragged a little bit at the end.

Great story but the narrator wrecks it

I suggest getting the book or ebook, instead of the audiobook. This is a well-written story about an interesting topic. The issue is the narrator does awful accents. The Australian accent of John is particularly terrible. Any Australian native is going to be offended by this, I just found it distracting and unnecessary. The Peruvian accents weren't as bad, though were superfluous and stereotypical also. Would've been better to have just read it in his own voice.

Book reader very good.

It was very well read. Easy to listen to reader's voice. If you are interested in hiking austere conditions this has some of that.

A little bit of both

This book has a great balance of fun stories from a crazy adventure through Peru as well as the history of foreign influence in both the ancient Incan culture and modern-day Peru. Who ever thought history could be so fun! If you like education and adventure, it’s a great read.
