Publisher's summary

In January 2003, Nick Sparks and his brother Micah set off on a three-week trip around the world. It was to mark a milestone in their lives, for at 35 and 36, respectively, they were now the only surviving members of their family. As Nick and Micah travel the globe, the intimate story of their tragic family legacy unfolds in the details of the untimely deaths of their parents and only sister. Against the backdrop of the wonders of the world, the Sparks brothers bond together to heal, to remember, and to learn to live life to the fullest.

Critic reviews

"This is a rare opportunity for readers to get to know a favorite author as Nicholas reveals the inspirations for his fiction. A must-read for Sparks fans as well as a treat for those who want to find out what makes a family strong." (Booklist)
"Refreshingly honest and perceptive....Weaving in vignettes of tenderness and loss with travelogue-like observations, Sparks's account shows how he and his brother both evolved on this voyage." (Publishers Weekly)

I expected a travel story but this was much more

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Even though I knew where it was going, the story was interesting and entertaining the entire time. I too lost my parents at a young age and was raised as a free-range child. I too am a reformed workaholic and am now traveling the world, though not in three weeks but in three years. Someone recommended this book to me because it reminded her of all my travel stories. I’m glad I took her advice to buy and listen to the audio book.

Really Good

If you are looking for an armchair travelogue, this is not the book. That is what I was looking for, and I kept on waiting for sightseeing commentaries. Those are secondary. Like peeling an onion, this story unfolds and u get to understand, why it was so important for him to travel with his brother. Where they went seems incidental. A really, really good story. I have never read his fiction books (strike me as romantic stories) but this book was a nice surprise.

Three Weeks With My Brother

I really enjoyed this book. I even laughed out loud at times and cried at others. I am Catholic so my belief system is the same as Nicholas Sparks. I too have lost family members, 3 siblings and 1 parent. He helped me to see that greater good can come out of tragedy. His brother and him have a relationship to be admired and one to model. His philosophy of marriage is very true, commitment is the key factor in a lasting marriage.

Excellent

I have read quite a few Nicolas Sparks books. This is by far, my favorite. It brought to memory my own semi dysfunctional child hood. It also helped me to appreciate where I am in life, and all of those that have been a part of my childhood and youth.

Inspired.

If you could sum up Three Weeks with My Brother in three words, what would they be?

Reconnecting. Kinship. Tragedy.
In one word--Life.

Have you listened to any of Henry Leyva’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I haven't. But the performance was outstanding. He really understood the voice of the narration, and was unafraid to go to the places that the story went.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No.
This was a book that I personally wanted to savor. The story was rich and emotional, and even though it was a page turner, I wanted to take breaks to absorb the story that was being told to me. Every chapter, every event that was depicted I wanted to remember and experience and relate to. To me this book was meant to be experienced.

Excellent!

After listening to tons of Nicholas Sparks’ novels, it was very neat to listen to this accounting of his own life, to get an inside peek into the life of an author who has provided me with so many engaging hours. The narrator was excellent, too, so great with a variety of accents, and changing voices for dialog.

What a great trip!

It was so relatable for starters. Such an amazing true story. The humble upbringing and how they became millionaires..Wow! Their life of highs and lows was both heartbreaking and heartwarming. Then there is the narrator, I loved the way he read this story. Bravo, A+!

A Classic!

While I have enjoyed two of his other books, I believe "Three Weeks with
My Brother" is his best work to date. Nicholas Sparks is an excellent storyteller. Their youthful escapades are uproariously funny.
I laughed, I cried ... I loved it!
