Publisher's summary

New York Times Best Seller

Now a major motion picture directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

By day he made thousands of dollars a minute. By night he spent it as fast as he could. From the binge that sank a 170-foot motor yacht and ran up a $700,000 hotel tab, to the wife and kids waiting at home and the fast-talking, hard-partying young stockbrokers who called him king, here, in Jordan Belfort's own words, is the story of the ill-fated genius they called the Wolf of Wall Street. In the 1990s, Belfort became one of the most infamous kingpins in American finance: a brilliant, conniving stock-chopper who led his merry mob on a wild ride out of Wall Street and into a massive office on Long Island. It's an extraordinary story of greed, power, and excess no one could invent: the tale of an ordinary guy who went from hustling Italian ices to making hundreds of millions - until it all came crashing down.

Praise for The Wolf of Wall Street

“Raw and frequently hilarious.” (The New York Times)

“A rollicking tale of [Jordan Belfort’s] rise to riches as head of the infamous boiler room Stratton Oakmont...proof that there are indeed second acts in American lives.” (Forbes)

“A cross between Tom Wolfe’s The Bonfire of the Vanities and Scorsese’s GoodFellas... Belfort has the Midas touch.” (The Sunday Times [London])

“Entertaining as pulp fiction, real as a federal indictment...a hell of a read.” (Kirkus Reviews)

Wolf doesn't describe Jordan Belfort

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book was really interesting. It was a good read, but left me disgusted with people.

What other book might you compare The Wolf of Wall Street (Movie Tie-in Edition) to and why?

having read the book it acutally helped me understand the movie a little more, but the book was better than the movie.

What does Eric Meyers bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He really brings the smugness and entitled feelings the stock brokers had. I enjoyed listening to his portrayl of each person.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A wolf in Armani clothing.

Genius and madness on an epic scale

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would! I really enjoyed the book; it's quite well written and, as is always true with books, gives details and insight absent from the film. It's a modern portrait of a very tortured soul going through an Inferno of his own design, without a Beatrice to guide him.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Wolf of Wall Street (Movie Tie-in Edition)?

The events of the book are so outrageous that it's fairly hard to pick just one. Perhaps Jordan being doused with water through the mail slot by the Duchess.

Have you listened to any of Eric Meyers’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not! I really enjoyed his performance of this novel. The one off-putting thing in his performance for me was his characterization of nearly all the women. They all were performed in a nasal, screamy falsetto that did nothing to individualize them. Granted, many of them were less than likable as characters, but still...

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

What a capitalist genius Jordan Belfort is/was. While he used his talents for personal gain, one cannot deny his ability to figure his way out of tricky situations and mastermind the most complicated financial takeovers and transactions. I learned more about the stock market and foreign banking from this book than I imagined possible!

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed hearing and understanding the differences between the book and the film. These included Belfort's very different departure from Stratton than in the film, many characters such as Weasel, the Chef, Barzini and others missing from the film, Jordan's earnest love for his daughter (and sometimes, wife), medical complications with his son Carter, etc. I am so glad to have heard Jordan's story in Jordan's words, which are poignantly self-aware, and at times downright brilliant.

page turning honesty

entertaining and never dull. finished the book in about 2 days. I chose to take the author at his word and it was his candid and brutal honesty that painted such a vivid picture of his world and it was fascinating.

Great and Entertaining Book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes - It's very entertaining

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jordan Belfort

What about Eric Meyers’s performance did you like?

Great voice for this book

Any additional comments?

Would you give a book about Adolf Hitler a bad review because Hitler was a bad guy? I see people giving this book a bad review because they think Jordan Belfort is a bad guy. I guess we should stop cautionary tales about bad people altogether. This is a great book. I really enjoyed the movie and I wanted to really delve into the details. I did not like when the movie would dismiss the details as "too hard for the viewer to understand."

I wanted to hear the details about what Belfort was doing and the book did give more detail, although I thought It could have done even more. I loved hearing the background stories about all the characters. Belfort did terrible things, that's not even in dispute. However, that doesn't mean I don't want to hear his story.

Great story!

I watched the movie before the book, which is backwards from what most people do. I loved both the movie and the book. The narrator did an amazing job and was very entertaining to listen to. The book went into greater detail about his life that wasn't in the movie like having a son and his attempted suicide and path to sobriety. I would definitely recommend this audio book to everyone.

Outstanding Story. Eric Meyers is extraordinary.

The book is excellent. The performance by Eric Meyers is transcendent. I plan to read any other books by Belfort, and any other books narrated by Meyers.

Very Convoluted!

There were parts that left me questioning the sanity of Jordan and the validity of the events that took place. Overall it's a great listen/read.

Amazing Book! I

I was hooked the entire time. The narrator did an amazing job. In my opinion, watch the movie first and you will connect more with this book. I can't wait to listen to book 2.
