The Real Deal is the incredible story of James Caan's remarkable life. From his childhood as a Pakistani immigrant in Brick Lane in the 1960s and his decision not to go into the family business, to the phenomenal success of his first company, this book traces James's journey to both financial and personal maturity. It deals with his disappointment upon realising his goals too early, and offers a frank account of what success at 30 really means.
The Real Deal brings us bang up to the present day, including the truth about his role on Dragons' Den, what his charity work in Lahore, Kashmir, and Kosovo means to him, and how he has come to completely re-evaluate the true value of money.
This rag-trade-to-riches story is an intimate account of an exceptional journey. It is a searingly honest exploration of James's path to success and a source of inspiration for anyone looking to emulate his extraordinary business skills.

I did not expect anything apart from a "usual business story" and I got it. Sometimes gets a bit boring, the narration could be improved. Overall, I would recommend it if you like business books, but it is not one of those "must read this!" books. Gives some ideas what worked and what did not work for James Caan and for that I would recommend it to my friends.
"Very insghtful and motivating"
Great insight into James Caan's life. Thoroughly interesting and highly recommended.
Saying that some parts I would of like to have been highlighted more, one of the main aspects is offcourse his personal situation with his father.
"Inspiring, to say the least. Educational as well"
I read James Caan's book when it first came out and it has got to be the most inspiring autobiography I have ever read. The audio book is as good and filled me with the same inspiration as the book did. I disagree with some who have said in reviews that it's not an easy 'listen'. You do have to listen sometimes a bit carefully as indeed he isn't a professional in reading books, but I'm more bothered that these people go to the effort to read them. You get a bit more emotion from the reader that way. By far the best of all the books written by the dragons.
"Love it! Love it! Love it!"
One of the best business audiobooks i've ever bought ;-) i'm waiting for more audio books from James Caan.
I can't take any more, I am 2 hours in and I have lost the will to live. Read in such a remedial, dull and basic way - should have been narrated by a professional.

"James caan didn't even enjoy reading his own book"
I'm not completely through the audio book yet, so I can't comment on the book itself. I'm sure judging by the positive reviews of his book that it's a good read.
However, the audio version is read with the dullest, most disinterested voice i've ever heard, at points he doesn't even pronounce the full words he justs lazily mumbles them.
If you can't be bothered to put some effort and enthusiasm into reading it - get someone else to!
"Better than I thought"
I like audiobooks for my commute to work. Autobiographies especially and I prefer the ones that are read by the author. However, James Caan's book wasn't really on my list and I initially got it for my husband, but I'm very glad I did! James hasn't got the best reading voice and how he describes his beginnings in business, I thought he was exactly the sort of sales person I would try to avoid. But later he describes a far more human and interesting person. I thought the book was informative and his story well told. I would recommend it.
"I changed my business model"
You may not like him, he may be smug and like the sound of his own voice, but he is a great business man. As a result of this book I changed the way I ran my multi-million turnover business. Loved it.
thought i would try this book and loved every minute of it.....
really really good listen
"An amazing story"
This is an absolutely amazing book to listen to; made all the more poignant as James is reading the book himself.
It's very rare that I come across a book that I just want to read/listen to all the way through, at every opportunity I get, and if you are interested in entrepreneurs, then this is a must.
As James has written the book in such a personal way, by disclosing actual figures in many cases I feel an extra dimension has been added to the book.
This really is a rags to riches story and clearly demonstrates the effort required to achieve this. I found certain elements quite moving as they touch a nerve with probably most of us.
Without a doubt, I would definitely recommend this book to all interested in the subject of entrepreneurship.
