The syndicated sex-advice columnist of "Savage Love" tells a no-holds-barred story of an ordinary American couple who want to have a baby, except that in this case, the couple happens to be Savage and his boyfriend.

I love the sound of Dan Savage's voice; I've enjoyed listening to him since I went through the This American Life archives, so I love picking up the audible books that he narrates.
I delayed listening to The Kid because I wasn't certain how relevant it would seem today. Other than a few minor references that make it clear that this story wasn't written yesterday (mostly references to where LGBT rights are, or how living in Seattle was then) this story is deeply touching. It's about trying to make a family, how people relate to each other and define their roles, and of course, Dan Savage being himself. A very sweet, funny, and touching story. Highly recommended!
Intimate, honest, entertaining
Yes! I listened to the whole audiobook in one day while I was running errands. I couldn't wait to get to the next chapter to see how the story played out.
I love with Dan narrates his own books, and also love when he's writing about his own life. This book is personal, moving and thrilling to listen to. Highly recommended!
I was surprised by how much I liked this book. I understand that some of the contents are white lies to protect DJ and others, it was still a great read and an enjoyable story. It is very nice to see how it could be for children and adoptive parents. If only it was as sanitized as presented here. I would like the have heard some of the more controversial things they've had to deal with!
Dan Savage has a way with words and tells his story with honesty and humor. I wasn't adopted and don't know anyone who's been adopted and still found this story very interesting and didn't want to stop listening. I think I finished it in a day. I found him through his podcast and plan to listen to his other books as well. Thanks for sharing your story and thoughts.
I like book when they are read... To me with different voices for all the characters... By a talented author. ~Haiku
I listened to Dan's books in reverse chronological order, and even though there is something like 15 years between the events in them, they are both filled with memories of places for my stomping grounds. It sounds corny, but I laughed, I cried, and I rolled my eyes... but mostly I smiled at the way things have turned out. :)
I was looking for another source to get my Dan Savage fix and this did exactly that.
Hearing Dan's perspective on parenthood and the motivations behind it was refreshing for someone who rarely thinks of becoming a parent, or that there are possible joys.
I loved this book - I would find myself simultaneously laughing and crying (happy tears!) in the middle of the street.
It's the sweet story of adults transitioning from adults to parents and all the nerves and excitement in between.
It did, however solidify a 'no baby policy' in my mind for at least another 5 years.
I am an avid listener of Dan's podcast, and I love hearing him talk about his family. This book is such a personal offering. I was fascinated by the adoption process that he described, and touched by his affection for DJs birth mother. Mostly, I enjoyed listening to him talk about his mother and hearing the love for his family in his voice. I laughed, and cried, and didn't want this story to end. Thanks, Dan!
I am not a father nor am i planning to be one in the near future but i loved it so much! The story is interesting and funny, i also found it a little moving and i'm not very sentimental. So this audio book is great for everyone.
I loved Dan's storytelling, his unique honesty and humor, I found myself very invested in the people in the story and actually searched for a sequel to know what happened after the events of the book ended.
Yes.I am on the road a lot so i listened to the audio book on my way to work and back, all in one week.
Listened to this book after i finished Dan's "American Savage", Also great!
