Publisher's summary

In December 1975, the Lutz family moved into their new home on suburban Long Island. George and Kathleen Lutz knew that, one year earlier, Ronald DeFeo had murdered his parents, brothers, and sisters in the house, but the property - complete with boathouse and swimming pool - and the price were too good to pass up.

Twenty-eight days later, the entire Lutz family fled in terror.

This is the spellbinding, best-selling, true story that gripped the nation - the story of a house possessed by evil spirits, haunted by psychic phenomena almost too terrible to describe.

Jay Anson began as a copy boy on the New York Evening Journal in 1937 and later worked in advertising and publicity. With more than 500 documentary scripts for television to his credit, he was associated with Professional Films, Inc. He died in 1980.

creepy

Well written and read. It was a lot creepier than I expected. The story had me jumping at noises in my house.

Interesting

The story was amazing but I am shocked at Ray Porter’s performance. He is usually the best but his reading of this book fell flat. It was difficult to discern between characters. Such a disappointment.

Really enjoyed this!

As always, Porter is a great narrator! And this story is a classic in cinema retelling, but I really enjoyed the disconnect from Hollywood’s sensationalization of the Lutz family’s story and getting to the actual recounts of the events at 112 Ocean Ave. I couldn’t put this away and finished within a day.

112 Ocean Avenue

The one thing I hated was how repetitive the author was with the address. It was overkill.

So good, it’s scary.

I was never a big fan of the movie but I have to admit, this book scared the hell out of me. Very intense and spooky. In addition, the narrator keeps the listener on the edge of their seat with every word. If looking for a horror book, look no further! Great stuff….

I researched some the events and some were impossible to happen, but that just makes the mystery more real, right?

A revisiting of a book I read many times.

I stumbled across this audible a few days ago and had to download it. I had read the book many times years ago. I am not here to convince you that it happened or to disprove the events. That is for each individual to decide. We all have our own beliefs. It is a well written book and the narrative is very good. I am glad I was able to revisit it.

The gentleman reading this book could read every book on audible and would make $1 million in a day his voice is amazing and how he portrays this story makes it even better.
