Publisher's summary

Jeff Bauman woke up on Tuesday, April 16th, 2013, and he had no legs.

Just 30 hours prior, Jeff was surrounded by revelry at the finish line of the 2013 Boston Marathon. The first bomb went off at his feet as he awaited his girlfriend's finish. When Jeff awoke days later from hours of surgery, rather than take stock of his now completely altered life, Jeff ripped out his breathing tube and tried to speak. He couldn't. Jeff asked for a pad and paper and he wrote down seven words, "Saw the guy. Looked right at me," setting off one of the biggest manhunts in the country's history and beginning his own brave road to recovery.

In his memoir, Jeff will inspire millions by writing about his experiences that early spring day and his ongoing mission to walk again. Jeff will show the terrorists that they accomplished nothing with their act of cowardice and prove to the entire world what Boston Strong really means.

Just the Right Mix of Humble and Hero

Where does Stronger rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have to admit I mostly use audiobooks to put me to sleep at night. (I usually last about 20 minutes) This one kept me awake, so I'm saving it for long drives. My favorite books are by runners, so this is not my favorite (It was recommended to me based on my purchase history because of the Boston connection), but even though it turns out Jeff was not a runner, his story was well told and he's a likable storyteller.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Stronger?

So many of the stories he tells in addition to his own, like about the people in his rehab clinic, can't help but pull you out of any self pity you might be feeling.

What about Jeff Woodman’s performance did you like?

Pretty good narration, although not a fan of the sudden Boston accents when he is switching characters. He doesn't use one on the main character, so it seems odd. But overall, very nice.

Any additional comments?

At first, he was being SO stoic, that it seemed forced and I was getting tired of it, but he gets more and more real throughout the book. I really appreciated how he was able to balance a lack of self pity with acknowledging that he really went through something horrible.

Honesty at its best!

Would you consider the audio edition of Stronger to be better than the print version?

Audio is almost always better - A great narrator can make emotion become real.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Stronger?

Jeff's coming to understand that he could fall and not get hurt. He was going to be OK.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I cried several times. To understand a little the pain and tragedy of this event is overwhelming.

Any additional comments?

Jeff's honesty and his doubt's and fears is inspiring. The experience strength and hope will be a light for many you listen to this book.

Heartwarming

Jeff Bauman is a true hero. He will always be Boston Strong. Extremely sad story and Jeff is able to be the hero he never knew he had.

Jeff Bauman, B STRONG!

This is a great story about an everyday guy whose life was forever changed by an explosion at the Boston Marathon. His struggles and early memories are well documented and this book is a great testimony of his strength!
