Publisher's summary

Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell returned from his star-crossed mission in Afghanistan with his bones shattered and his heart broken. So many had given their lives to save him-and he would have readily done the same for them. As he recuperated, he wondered why he and others, from America's founding to today, had been willing to sacrifice everything-including themselves-for the sake of family, nation, and freedom.

In Service, we follow Marcus Luttrell to Iraq, where he returns to the battlefield as a member of SEAL Team 5 to help take on the most dangerous city in the world: Ramadi, the capital of war-torn Al Anbar Province. There, in six months of high-intensity urban combat, he would be part of what has been called the greatest victory in the history of U.S. Special Operations forces. We also return to Afghanistan and Operation Redwing, where Luttrell offers powerful new details about his miraculous rescue. Throughout, he reflects on what it really means to take on a higher calling, about the men he's seen lose their lives for their country, and the legacy of those who came and bled before.

A thrilling war story, Service is also a profoundly moving tribute to the warrior brotherhood, to the belief that nobody goes it alone, and no one will be left behind.

Well worth the listen

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, this book really finishes explaining the story of Lone Survivor.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Service?

Several, but I will narrow to 2. Learning about the effort put toward the rescue of Marcus and the other was the chapter with the wives.

GREAT BOOK

I ENJOY HIS STORIES AND HIS SELF REFLECTION ON THE PATH OF HIS LIFE. GLAD HE GOT BACK IN THE GAME AND GOT OUT ON HIS TERMS RAHER THAN LETTING THE LONE SURVIVOR INCIDENT DICTATE HIS LIFE.

Sacrifice Few Understand

I am proud to be an American. I am amazed by the professionalism, dedication, and sacrifices made by individuals for the betterment of the team throughout this book. I usually never right reviews, but I wanted to express how much this book kept me engaged. The more en-depth debrief on Operation Red Wings. Communicating with Matthew Gene Axelson via radio during his recovery mission and the hope that this warrior was still down there fighting to survive. BLEW MY MIND!! I felt like I was in the cockpit with the pilot and I wanted so badly to get the answers to bring my brother home. While I listened to the audio book I was still driving my truck through the mountain passes back to my home and family. I almost hit two elk, nice bulls (where the hell were they during rifle season).

Thank you for sharing.

The first Marcus Luttrell book I read was lone survivor. I thought it was wonderful and inspiring and it moved me to read this book which brought even more inspiration and insight into the heroes that are serving in all branches of our military.

I didn’t want it to end. The Navy SEALs are the best in the world and our nation’s very lucky to have them. I loved this book from the first to the last word.
