"There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends." (John 15:13)
Just days before Chad Williams was scheduled to report for basic training at the Great Lakes naval base, he turned on the television and was greeted with the horrifying image of his mentor and training partner, US Navy SEAL Scott Helvenston, being brutally murdered in a premeditated ambush on the streets of Fallujah, Iraq. Steeled in his resolve, Chad committed himself to completing the US military’s most difficult training to become a Navy SEAL - and avenge his friend’s death.
One of only 13 out of a class of 173 to make it straight through to graduation, Chad went on to serve on SEAL Teams 1 and 7, completing tours of duty in the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and finally Iraq. There, Chad’s journey came full circle when his team was ambushed by enemy machine gunners - close to the same road where his hero had been killed five years earlier.
SEAL of God follows Chad’s extraordinary journey through 25 grueling weeks of BUD/S training and onto the hostile streets of Al Anbar Province, Iraq, where he witnessed the horrors of war up close. Along the way, Chad shares his own radical conversion story and discovers the true meaning of ultimate sacrifice.

First, I'm not sure why reviewer Tim was surprised at the Christian aspect of this book since God is in the title. Anyway, It was interesting to see this guy go from professional skate boarder, and stoner to a SEAL. I wanted to cry over the sweet friendship/mentor/mentee relationship with Scott Helvenston (former SEAL and Blackwater contractor killed in Iraq). There were also funny parts from his childhood such as a bad run-in with a homemade 'rocket' made with a paper towel tube.
There's a lot of technical information such as he goes into detail about diving equipment, technique and firearms.
I didn't expect the narration of be A+ since this is narrated by the author, but it gives the audiobook a more personal feel.
Chad Williams boldly holds nothing back... except for the expletives of his instructors, fellow candidates and colleagues in the Seals.
This story is an exceptional witness of living as a Christian in a very tough environment. I found the story very encouraging and recommend reading this if you have any testosterone flowing through your veins.
I love suspense, murder mysteries, psycho thriller books most of all! I listen when not taking classes for my masters degree.
I have learned more about the Navy SEAL's and their exhaustive training reading this book than doing any kind of research online. Chad's first had account of what he had to endure during training made me feel as if I was there going through it myself and his personal story of salvation is just as gripping.
What a cool story about life. Why is it that the kids that hate authority the most always seem to want to go into the toughest of the military. This is a great read that is read by the author. I really enjoyed the story and could relate to the changes and trials in his life.
No Easy Day, Many of the same issues and experiences
Would have if I could have. I listen in the car and got to my destination too soon.
I am a fan of historical fiction, especially the Outlander series, biographies, autobiographies, and documentaries, etc.
I loved this book and the fact thatbis was read by Chad, himself. It was wonderful to read how God's grace has changed his life , as well as appreciative of Chad's service on ALL accounts. i highly recommend this audio book!
A complex individual, with many varying interests including; technology, music, family, sports, travel, truth and knowledge.
I would not, and it's mostly because of how the story is told. I thought it was too linear and simplistically written.
To my knowledge, this is their only book. So, I have not read anything else to be able to compare it.
I liked the fact that the author performed the narration. I felt at times like he was rushing his words, though and I also think he managed to mispronounce a couple of words, which I found odd since he would have originally written them.
Because I had an interest in hearing what the author had to say, yes. If I didn't know anything about Chad and wasn't interested in his story, then I probably wouldn't think it was worth the time.
I love listening to Audible! I have "read" 27 books since I began using and enjoying the app! This is the best and most economical way!!!!!!
Awesome witnessing through a topic that will enchant and mesmerize even the toughest potential converts!
"Not what I was expecting"
I thought this book was along the lines of American Sniper, Lone Survivor but that was not the case. The main focus was religion and finding religion rather than SEAL training and operations. Chad describes some interesting hell raising when younger but I felt the book didn't heat up, end the way I was expecting or focus enough on the Teams.
