As a young kid growing up in a farm town, Ross Mathews might as well have wished for a pet unicorn or a calorie-free cookie tree to grow in his front yard. Either of those far-fetched fantasies would have been more likely to come true than his real dream: Working in television in Hollywood, California. Seriously, that stuff just doesn't happen to people like Ross. But guess what. It totally did.
Now, with his first book, Ross takes us inside his journey as a super-fan, revealing the most embarrassing and hilarious moments of his small-town life and big-city adventures. From learning to swear like a hardened trucker to that time in high school when had to face down the most frightening opponent of all (his girlfriend's lady bits), Ross holds nothing back.
Oh, then there's his surprisingly shady past involving the cutest pair of plus-sized women's pajama bottoms, deliciously dangerous pot butter, and embezzled sandwiches. And, of course, how he's managed to turn an obsession with pop-culture into one-on-one interactions with celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Tiffani-Amber Theissen, Madonna, Michelle Kwan, and countless more without ever having a single restraining order issued against him.
Infused with Ross's trademark humor, unique voice, and total honesty, Man Up! is a mission statement for anyone who doesn't fit the mold. His hasn't been the most traditional way to build a career in Hollywood, but Ross has somehow managed to make his mark without ever compromising who he is. He is as serious about this as he is about Golden Girls trivia: You don't need to change who you are to achieve your dreams (although there's nothing wrong with a makeover every now and then). You just need to Man Up!

Ross Mathews is simply fantastic! He writes and narrates in a way that felt like he was sitting across from me at a cozy Palm Springs outdoor cafe. I started this book after having followed Ross's career from Jay Leno to Straight Talk with Ross Mathews (Ross's very own podcast!). Listening to the "Tales of Delusional Self Confidence" helped me to try and find my own. Ross truly is an inspiration and this is a book that EVERYONE should read!
I love everything Ross Mathews, and somehow ended up loving him even more after listening to his book. You can hear the genuineness and excitement in his voice when he reads you his story, and you will want to listen to it over and over again. Also- if you love his book then definitely check out his podcast too
He's so entertaining and its as though he's just having a conversation with you- not reading at you.
Ross Matthews, is a great comedian and his narration of his story was delightful and read with great enthusiasm. However it was a little bit of a snooze. It was somewhat slow and boring. His story was just like the average person and typical gay man. I don't get the hype but then anyone can publish a book now a days. That being said, I enjoyed greatly his claim to fame. The man is funny. The book, I could have done without. Someone needed money.
I've read and listened to so many books, but this one was my favorite. I already adore Rose Mathews, but hearing his life in his signature voice made me love him even more! It's a must read!
Love books love story's love using this as a way to detox
boy becomes a man
The coming out portion when ross came out to his mom it had me laughing and crying it was fantastic
this verbiage and the way he get's into everything he talks about
no mumbo jumbo jive
Ross needs to do a 2nd book I want to know more
This book had me laughing! I started binge listening to Ross' podcast Straight Talk with Ross. After that I knew I just had to listen to the book! so much better listening to it straight out of the author's mouth. Not only is Ross so genuinely funny but you can tell he's just a great guy.... and so real! Can we be best friends?
