Publisher's summary

Four US Navy SEALS departed one clear night in early July 2005 for the mountainous Afghanistan-Pakistan border for a reconnaissance mission. Their task was to document the activity of an al Qaeda leader rumored to have a small army in a Taliban stronghold. Five days later, only one of those Navy SEALS made it out alive.

This is the story of the only survivor of Operation Redwing, SEAL team leader Marcus Luttrell, and the extraordinary firefight that led to the largest loss of life in American Navy SEAL history. His squadmates fought valiantly beside him until he was the only one left alive, blasted by an RPG into a place where his pursuers could not find him. Over the next four days, terribly injured and presumed dead, Luttrell crawled for miles through the mountains and was taken in by sympathetic villagers who risked their lives to keep him safe from surrounding Taliban warriors.

A born and raised Texan, Marcus Luttrell takes us from the rigors of SEAL training, where he and his fellow SEALs discovered what it took to join the most elite of the American special forces, to a fight in the desolate hills of Afghanistan for which they never could have been prepared. His account of his squadmates' heroism and mutual support renders an experience for which two of his squadmates were posthumously awarded the Navy Cross for combat heroism that is both heartrending and life-affirming. In this rich chronicle of courage and sacrifice, honor and patriotism, Marcus Luttrell delivers a powerful narrative of modern war.

Thank You Is Not Adequate 2 Luttrell&All Who Serve

What made the experience of listening to Lone Survivor the most enjoyable?

How Can We Begin To Say "Thank You" To Marcus Lutrell and the other named and unnamed men who protect our freedoms at all costs?

Loan Survivor-Wow, just wow! Marcus Lattrell is an incredibly humble man and gives us a peek into the world that our servicemen keep at bay.

This is an account of bravery, human kindness, treachery, evils and unsuspected allies. While a bit slow in the beginning, the writing is necessary so that one can understand the absolute strength and superhuman will that a man -to be- a Navy SEAL must endure and conquer before officially becoming one of the world's best, bravest and strongest warriors. These few chapters explain how one becomes a member of this elite force and is vital to understanding Lattrell's survival mechanism.

While some of the story was engrossed in details of non-actions scenery. It is necessary that the reader knows what is going on for later in the book. The author does a great job introducing the reader to his teammates, painting vivid pictures from their past interactions and friendships. It seems as though the 3 to 4 years in training creates a bond that takes most of us a lifetime to achieve.

The absolute devastation that the author tells of and the bravery as each of his teammates are lost on the battlefield is heart wrenching - they are purely heroic until the very end.

This memoir also delves into the discussion of what helps and hurts each mission through the media, politics, politicians and the support of Americans. It also shows the authors personal strength and humility and his family ties and Christian upbringing.

I highly recommended this book with the preamble of giving the first few chapters a chance, push through them if they are difficult. It is worth it and is important for the rest of the book.

God bless Marcus Latrell and each of his teammates, those who attempted to rescue him and those who were able to complete the mission.

I am grateful for each and every member of our armed services from the beginning of American history through this current day. We owe them a debt that can never be satisfied and we MUST do better and express our love, appreciation, respect and honor these brave men and women.

This is NOT a fictional romance dressed up with Special Operations as many of the books out there (several I've listened to and reviewed). This is REAL LIFE with no tying of a bow and wrapping a happily ever after in a neat package.

NOTE: Descriptions of violence, strong language

Credit/$ Worthy: ABSOLUTELY

This Audio book kept me rapt up in the action and emotions of its real life characters. I dare anyone to listen to the entire story and not get emotional. To that I mean, try not to cry, getting angry, and wanting to right the wrongs from Afghanistan to our own shores! Thank You Marcus!

A Tale of True Valor

A lot of people are forgetting the fact that this is a true story and people complaining about politics are ignorant of who wrote this book, this is one of the best books I've ever listened to. I couldn't recommend this more. This is a story of true Valor and this should be read by everyone.
