Michael McIntyre has become Britain’s biggest comedy star. His debut stand-up DVD, Live & Laughing, was the fastest selling of all time, only to be eclipsed by his second, Hello Wembley, which sold over 1.4 million copies and was the 2009 Christmas number one. He hosts his own BAFTA nominated BBC1 series, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, and won the British Comedy Award for Best Live Stand-up in 2009 following his record breaking 54-date Arena tour.
But how did he get there? Michael reveals all and gives a hilarious performance in this audio edition of his remarkably honest autobiography. His showbiz roots, his appalling attempts to attract the opposite sex, his fish-out-of-water move from public to state school, and his astonishing journey from selling just one ticket at the Edinburgh Festival to selling half a million tickets on his last tour - all are revealed. Michael’s story is riveting, poignant, romantic, and above all, very, very funny.

"Laugh out loud funny!"
I've always loved Michael McIntyre, and bought this as an audio book for a long haul flight. I think I kept a few people awake around me when I kept laughing out loud! If you like Mr McIntrye, you'll love this, made all the better as he narrates it himself.
"A Must Read / Listen!"
Brilliant book! Michael narrates this so well! Had me laughing from the start! You have to buy this book!!!
I was a bit sceptical about audio books but was very pleasantly surprised. This was a great book to start with but I am converted to audiobooks. Michael McIntyre does not disappoint, he is funny and charming and is not afraid to open up about the high and lows on the road to his success. I loved hearing about his education, his family life, his romance with Kitty and his career, Michael shows that he is like everyone else with the little dramas in his life and yet he overcame some issues to be the great comedian he is today. I hope you do buy this book and enjoy it as much as I did.
I laughed from start to finish! Absolutely hilarious but interesting too. So pleased I got it as an audio book as listening to Michael McIntyre reading it just absolutely made it with all his voices and wit. A must have! I'm going to listen to it again straight away. Only problem _ I irritated my kids and husband as i kept laughing out loud and they obviously weren't in on the joke! Well done Michael,, can't wait for the next one!
"Funny as ......."
If you like Michael McIntyre you will love this. It's like having a personal stand up show!!! He is funny and articulate and very descriptive. It is an honest description of his life. Michael comes across as a very loyal individual. I really enjoyed it. There were many many laugh out loud moments. I would seriously recommend it.
I had to read this book for myself after going on holiday with my daughter and having to listen to her read snippets to me when I wanted to know why she was convulsed with laughter. Even out of context it was very funny. I have not been disappointed. A remarkably funny book, honest, well read (his accents when quoting others - Billy Connelly for example) . I decided to have audible version so I can listen to it on long drives - miles disappear rapidly. Look forward to making the trips now.
"Lovely and funny!"
Lovely and funny just like Michael! Such an enjoyable listen and so interesting to hear about his journey to success in his own words. Also very funny! But I wouldn't expect anything less! Great book!
"Totally likeable if a little short on analysis"
If you like Michael McIntyre on stage you're likely to enjoy his reading of his autobiography. It's full of his humour, his anecdotes, obviously it's his story.
What might have been quite nice would have been some effort to analyse what makes him funny, why he feels the need to make people laugh; he's not much respected by other comedians and apparently feels strongly about that (understandably) but there was nothing on this in the book.
Maybe that would be best left to other people. Maybe a more mature McIntyre will write another book in 20 years. In the meantime this is a thoroughly enjoyable. on-the-surface type romp through his life so far. I just think there's more to tell.
I decided to download this book after my husband read it. His constant giggles and incessant reading out of extracts which in turn made me laugh too encouraged me to read the book myself. Rather than wait for him to finish I downloaded it and found this was far better. When a book is read by the author you hear the story from their point of view and Mchael often adds extra bits to the story line adding to it beyond the book. This I'd highly recommend this book, even if you have read the paper version before.
"Michael at his best!"
I absolutely loved this book, I laughed from start to finish. There were sad parts in the book but it was so well told. I think he has a wonderful relationship with his sister and a very odd one with his grandma.
Michael has struggled to get where he is today but the story behind it is hysterical. I can't wait for the next book I'm sure there are plenty of comics who have had their jokes stolen by many more celebrities well done Michael you deserve all you have achieved, I would have liked to have seen you wearing the overcoat and seen your spotty face in person but hearing the reading of the book I felt I was there!
