best audio book I've ever listened to. Lyrical.

Would you listen to Life After Death again? Why?

Yes. The inspiration that Damien Echols gives is heartbreakingly beautiful and powerful. His reading/narrating of this book is the best I've heard.

What did you like best about this story?

His passion and lyrical way of describing what could have only been hell for him.

What about Damien Echols’s performance did you like?

As I mentioned, I believe his performance is easily the best I've ever heard on audible. Hire him!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

I've followed this story for years. I've been moved to tears each and every time I hear more of what was endured. But this is a story that needs to be heard. Screamed from the rooftops even. Justice was not done here. These men were robbed.

Made My Heart Hurt...Brilliantly Written and Read

If you could sum up Life After Death in three words, what would they be?

Ruination. Devastation. Hope.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Damien Echols, of course.
I was so impressed by Damien's stark intelligence and his wisdom in such hopeless circumstances. It seemed to me that from childhood he never had a chance to escape the binds of his backwoods upbringing and then barely an adult (at 18 years old), he is sent to Death Row for a crime he did not commit. That such a thing could happen - and continues to happen - is so horrifying and beyond comprehension - and he lived this nightmare.
Damien maintained his dignity no matter how many people tried to rob him of it. He never once pitied himself and asked "why me?" and that strength of character he showed made me so proud of him.
Damien Echols story and the story of the West Memphis 3 will haunt me the rest of my life, even though they are now, thankfully out.

Have you listened to any of Damien Echols’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Damien Echols' narration was faultless. His rich, Delta accent was mesmerising and beautiful and really made the book a pleasure to listen to.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The entire book moved me, but hearing the way Damien describes his wife and his love for her really moved me and made delighted me that he had that in his life.

Any additional comments?

I remember when I first watched the documentary Paradise Lost (this was before the WM3 were released from prison) I could not stop thinking about it. I couldn't sleep, thinking about the horror of their situation. I signed all the petitions and shared all their articles and documents with the public to do what I could to get people's attention, but really, I just felt so damn helpless. Listening to this book broke my heart all over again, though of course Damien, Jason and Jessie are all out of prison. What has been done to them will never be reversed and that still bothers me. I just hope that these men can live the lives they want to live and feel free now that they are out of prison.

Very good

Any additional comments?

If you are looking for a documentary on the murders this is not it. This book is about the life and struggles of the author. It is very good if that's your thing.

This is a MUST READ

What did you love best about Life After Death?

A gut-wrenching story of a tragedy comprised among tragedies... and Damien manages to not only keep his sanity, but he even grows as a human being among animals would-be gods.

Any additional comments?

Damien Echols spent 18 years on death row for a crime he (and his friends) did not commit. See how this happened in our "justice" system, and do what you can to keep it from happening again.

Enjoyed this book. Well written

I had watched the HBO show about this case and was very curious. This book was well written and it is such a shame that our justice system could be so corrupt. The real shame is that no one is looking for the real murderer of the three children. Damien did a great job as the narrator. I hope his future is bright as I am sure that being on death row for 17 years for something that you did not do, has to do some permanent damage to a person.

Tragically Beautiful and Inspiring

This book will be given to anyone important to me from this day forward. I went in with no expectations, just an interest in what Mr Echols would choose to write about. It is exceptionally moving and beautifully written/read. I gained a new perspective on my life as well as others. Should you read this review, stop reading and download immediately.

I felt every word

I was totally enveloped in the narration of Mr. Echols journey of a hell hole sentencing.. at the end I was so relieved at the mention of his freedom that I actually shed a couple tears and had to hide them while I was at work... Damien, you are so strong. I will forever remember your story. FOREVER!
