Publisher's summary

Audie Award Finalist, Humor, 2014

From the unique perspective of David Sedaris comes a new collection of essays taking his listeners on a bizarre and stimulating world tour. From the perils of French dentistry to the eating habits of the Australian kookaburra, from the squat-style toilets of Beijing to the particular wilderness of a North Carolina Costco, we learn about the absurdity and delight of a curious traveler's experiences. Whether railing against the habits of litterers in the English countryside or marveling over a disembodied human arm in a taxidermist's shop, Sedaris takes us on side-splitting adventures that are not to be forgotten.

Interesting stories!

Love the wittiness of narrator and how he told the stories. Something to casually hear through the day and brighten your mood. 100% exceed my expectations on the book.

Doesn't disappoint

If you could sum up Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls in three words, what would they be?

I was literally laughing out loud about four sentences into the book. David Sedaris' stories and his delivery continue to delight, amuse and relate life as few others can. Although we've lead vastly different lives, I can still relate to the undertones of many of his stories. This book does not disappoint, whether a first-time reader or long-time fan.

ok

Not hilarious. Interesting in a sad way. Couldn't finish it. Narration was good and easy to listen to. But it made me more sad than happy. I made it through 10 chapters, so I gave it a fair chance. sorry!

David being David

I've seen David perform live in Richmond many years ago and his performance here holds same weight. He makes his readers/listeners want to write because it seems so easy based on the mundaneness of his writing style. Alas anyone who attempts to imitate what David paints turns what should be a beautiful Monet landscape into a crudely drawn sun with sunglasses on it a top a pile of Crayola'd baby diarrhea. Please use this comment as illustration to my point.

Delightful

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It's one of David Sedaris' best books. It reminds me of his earlier work, like Me Talk Pretty One Day. Funny, touching and well presented.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls?

The Dog Poems are hilarious, and the first story is a lovely combination of his fine humor and his love for a twist in the story line.

Have you listened to any of David Sedaris’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, and it's up there with his best.

Milk through your nose funny

If you could sum up Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls in three words, what would they be?

Really fing funny!

What other book might you compare Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls to and why?

This one ranks among ".. Corduroy and Denim" and "Me Talk Pretty One Day."

What does David Sedaris bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Listening to Sedaris narrate his own stories is as pleasant and true as listening to Tina Fey at "Bossypants" and Jennifer Lawson at "Let's Pretend..."

Any additional comments?

I am a big fan of Sedaris. This book is less biting as previous ones, but no less hilarious.
