Publisher's summary

Audie Award Finalist, Humor, 2014

From the unique perspective of David Sedaris comes a new collection of essays taking his listeners on a bizarre and stimulating world tour. From the perils of French dentistry to the eating habits of the Australian kookaburra, from the squat-style toilets of Beijing to the particular wilderness of a North Carolina Costco, we learn about the absurdity and delight of a curious traveler's experiences. Whether railing against the habits of litterers in the English countryside or marveling over a disembodied human arm in a taxidermist's shop, Sedaris takes us on side-splitting adventures that are not to be forgotten.

Imagine a life with David Sedaris

Humorist, storyteller, caustic self analyst, Sedaris spins the stories of his life. His observations of a seemingly normal experience shows the twisted gift he allows us to share with him. It makes me wonder how many of those incidents pass me by each day; untapped material for a book just slipping through my fingers.
Keep up the good work Mr. Sedaris - it is a gem I will listen to more than once.

Essays at the end are hilarious!

The stories are pretty mundane, but the essays that Sedaris ends with are worth the listen

Great Stories, LOL Moments

Would you consider the audio edition of Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls to be better than the print version?

Yes, this audiobook included light music between the numbers and it was a nice break from the story for a moment. Also, some of these essays are recorded live, so you get to hear reactions from the crowd, which you wouldn't get in print.

Who was your favorite character and why?

David Sedaris of course! I've read most of his other books and love them, but this was the first audiobook I have done where he is the author. I also loved hearing stories about his dad, just because they were so outrageous and funny.

Which character – as performed by David Sedaris – was your favorite?

He does voices for his family and people in his stories, they were all great.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I really liked hearing about his upbringing, and travels in his early 20's.

Any additional comments?

I think that this is a superb audiobook. Sometimes David sounds a little funny, but it helps the story have a little more character! I'd like to hear another narrator give some of these a shot - I performed a piece in college for a Communication Performance act. I'll likely give another of his a try.

Obammmaaaa in France. You had to be there.

Which character – as performed by David Sedaris – was your favorite?

His parents. Hilarious.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

His Dad's insistent rejection of him and then trying to be there for him for the colonoscopy.

Listen to it.

Always worth it

I find David Sedaris worth the listen. Sometimes he is insightful; sometimes he is offensive; sometimes I can’t help but laugh out loud uncontrollably. In any essay, I find him interesting.

Funniest book in my library!

This is by far the funniest book I have read in years! I laughed out loud listening to the entire book. David Sedaris is one of the best authors I have listened to in years... I now know that I need to download more of his books to listen to in the future. he is an amazing author, even though his books are not fiction. I enjoyed this read so much, I want to go back and listen to it again because I was laughing so hard I know that I missed pieces of text! A definite recommended read for absolutely everyone!

Typical Sedaris

It wasn’t quite up to par with his other audiobooks. Some parts were very funny & actually educational but some of the bits, like the next to the last chapter, were a bust. I will continue, however, to listen to his vocal presentations as long as they are around. On the written page much of the humor is lost to me.

Great until the last chapter, then fizzled out.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The last chapter was lame. I didn't think that it fit the rest of the book.

Any additional comments?

Very funny with sad moments of the author telling stories about his everyday life.

Always entertaining

I love David Sedaris. I'd listen to him read anything, especially his own non-fiction. I don't enjoy the fiction as much, but appreciate his imagination.
