A Must Read I wasn't expecting Much

This is an intensely personal story 16 hours on audio of Ayaan's life growing up in Somalia as a Muslim. It is not overly political as much as it is wanting the Western world to understand what the problems are and why she helped Van Gough make the movie that ended up getting him assassinated. You will understand why it is not arrogant or hateful but a deep desire to help her people.

Must read

It’s a must read and I wish it was taught as a subject at high school level.

Required reading

An essential text in understanding what theocratic countries can do to women. By far one of the most influential books I’ve ever read.

Fantastic book

An eye opening book, reading parts of the story brought tears of pain and sorrow of what Aayan had to endure.

Very honest and articulate

I loved this. The author has a sharp mind and was able to see life and analyze it and get out of a bad environment. She's intelligent, articulate and inspirational. This is a very moving story. She thinks she's lucky, but she should be proud of her accomplishments. She used her brains and wisdom to succeed, not luck.

The American dream

The story alone is the most moving piece of literature. And when combined with the author reading her own words it moves to tears.

Forever changed

This remarkable young woman her insight her instinct the little voice inside of her that would not rest until she found the freedom that she sought. The freedom that she didn’t even know she was looking for. The unparalleled courage she displayed to rectify the things that she was brought up with that she knew instinctively were wrong. The journey that she took is one that I will never forget. Her bravery is astounding. I have so much more to say but I am so full of wonder at the entire ordeal that words fail I can only feel. A brilliant book a brilliant human being and the story that must be told again and again so that it is also forever changed!
