extraordinary!

I couldn't stop listening. it places everything in context. it also shows us that the press and politicians refuse to see the truth about Islam and prefer to be hypocrites to the truth.

Vital for Understanding Islam

I've been on a quest in recent years to understand Islam as it relates to major world events. The side of Islam that Hirsi Ali talks about in this book is something that everyone needs to examine even if it raises some uncomfortable questions. Don't believe the hype that this book is "Islamophobic" or otherwise bigoted. It's not. It's a woman talking about what she experienced. While it may not be the only book you need to understand Islam in today's world, it's one that you definitely shouldn't skip over.

Her delivery is also very pleasant and easy to listen to.

Eye-Opening

Brilliant book by one of the most courageous females of our lifetime. There is no one alive today who has the audacity to speak out like this author has. Unbelievable story of pain and triumph. A must read!!

Enlightening

Superb. Hearing a firsthand account from a former Muslim of Islam was enlightening. Changed my thinking about Islam and, perhaps, my heretofore tolerant attitude.

An education in Religion gone wrong

A book like this reminds me of how fortunate we in the U.S.A. are to have freedom of thought and expression. I suffered thru the first hour trying to understand the author/reader, but then Ayaan Hirsi Ali's autobiography took off -- and I am glad that she did not hire a professional reader. Her accent served to draw me in deeper as she described her family, her religion which turned radical, her country, her clan -- well, her life. An inspiring book from a woman who I hope will live a very long life with a dash of happiness thrown in.

Gripping, invigorating, emotionally moving memoir

Ayaan Hirsi Ali writes with such clarity humanity, and tenderness about her tumultuous but incredible life. I read this book in paperback 4 years ago, but listening to her read it herself was moving in a different way. I cried at least 4 times. She is such an incredibly inspiring figure. I can’t recommend it too highly.

Heartfelt personal observation of a young girl opening her eyes.

A transitional voyage from the perspective of an Islamic young female in the African Somalian family culture running away to avoid a forced marriage. Only to discover a new world of the infidels is actually a more realistic view of life and the world. Kind of like
