Who volunteers? Why? What are you willing to do?

This title presents the hilarious, heartwarming adventures of a volunteering cynic.

Do the feel-good rewards commensurate with the time and effort involved? When Seb Hunter accidentally picks up the phone to a charity Fundraiser one day, he faces a moment of reckoning. It isn't so much that he lacks a social conscience; but he can no longer assuage it by buying the odd copy of the Big Issue and eating Fairtrade chocolate. So he decides to sign up, transform good intention into commitment, and get involved in as different types of volunteering as possible.

From falling out with fellow do-gooders at Oxfam to becoming embroiled in labyrinthine bureaucracy on behalf of a Congolese asylum seeker; from hospital radio to litter picking; and, from working at a homeless drop-in centre to averting climate change (although not all simultaneously), he sheds blood, sweat, and tears in the name of Good Causes. But can working for no financial reward actually make you a 'better person'?

"Not really a *how to* book..."
    Any additional comments?

Not exactly a real *how to* book, this memoir is a delightful and funny read about one man's journey to find out if volunteer work - for all of its hype - can really make one a better person. Seb tries a little bit of everything, from picking up litter to volunteering at a drop-in center for some pretty scary homeless dudes. His comedic perspective of each volunteer project will make you laugh out loud. But does all this altruism really make Seb a better person? It definitely makes him feel better about himself; although one cannot help but question the project's success when Seb uses his baby as an excuse to get out of volunteer work.

    "So Funny"

I love this book, the author works as a volunteer with different charities and it just proves how hard it is to fit in with the people who have been doing the job for years. The funninest is the Oxfam shop.It is not a self help book or anything like that but it will make you laugh out loud! I've not finished this audio yet and will be really sad when I do. I am now looking to find out if this author has written any more books.
