Publisher's summary

Tom Hanks wrote the introduction to this rousing story of two inseparable friends and soldiers portrayed in the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers.

William "Wild Bill" Guarnere and Edward "Babe" Heffron were among the first paratroopers of the U.S. Army - members of an elite unit of the 101st Airborne Division called Easy Company. Arguably the bravest, most efficient, physically fit, and tight-knit group of soldiers the Army has ever produced, the unit was called upon for every high-risk operation of the war, including D-Day, Operation Market Garden in Holland, the Battle of the Bulge, and the capture of Hitler's Eagle's Nest in Berchtesgaden.

Both fought side-by-side until Guarnere lost his leg in the Battle of the Bulge and was sent home. Heffron went on to liberate concentration camps and rake Hitler's Eagle's Nest hideout. United by their experience, the two reconnected at the war's end and have been the best of friends ever since. Their story is a tribute to the lasting bond forged between comrades in arms - and to all those who fought for freedom.

What an amazing life

They may not want to be called hero's but they along with their fellow soldiers are the true definition of a Hero.

a happy ending for such a sad War

I watched Band of Brothers, this book is a happy ending for at least two of those men who served at a time when coming home was so uncertain. a great commitment to Friendship and love.

Bonded together

If you choose to listen beyond the original book by Steve Ambrose (which is fantastic) this is a must listen.

Fabulous story

My husband and I loved the Band of Brothers miniseries and loved the book, as well. We just watched the miniseries for about the 12th time, and for some reason this was the time that I became very interested to read more about these men. I'm thrilled that I found this book, and will be forever changed by knowing more of the story of these two friends. I come away wishing I could have met them, bought them a beer or three, and gotten them started on some story telling. Hopefully Bill would have surmised that I was a person worthy of his time.

Unequivocal authenticy

The narrator conveyed not only the confidence of paratroopers from South Philadelphia... but also the emotion that Wild Bill and Babe felt in recounting their experiences. A must read/listen for any fan of history, but especially for those interested in learning more of the men from Easy Company of the 101st.

One of the best audiobooks

This is what all audiobooks should be. Great story about two of the band of brothers , even greater narration.

Beautiful Story of a Bond of Brothers

I love the entire story. It was sad at some point, but overall a delightful story and easy read. I am amazed by the outstanding bravery of the young men who went to fight a war to protect their country in WWII.

The Band of Brothers up close

Takes you inside the Band of Brother's easy company. The book tells many back stories of events in the well known HBO mini-series. Told through the eyes of two of the series real life characters, it gives the enlisted man's viewpoint.
While it does get preachy and politically simplistic in parts, it is undoubtably the view of these men and I respect them.
The narration is okay but does get a bit difficult to follow as it switches from one character to the other.
It also tells what happened in later life to many of the lesser characters we met in the mini-series.
