Publisher's summary

Tom Hanks wrote the introduction to this rousing story of two inseparable friends and soldiers portrayed in the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers.

William "Wild Bill" Guarnere and Edward "Babe" Heffron were among the first paratroopers of the U.S. Army - members of an elite unit of the 101st Airborne Division called Easy Company. Arguably the bravest, most efficient, physically fit, and tight-knit group of soldiers the Army has ever produced, the unit was called upon for every high-risk operation of the war, including D-Day, Operation Market Garden in Holland, the Battle of the Bulge, and the capture of Hitler's Eagle's Nest in Berchtesgaden.

Both fought side-by-side until Guarnere lost his leg in the Battle of the Bulge and was sent home. Heffron went on to liberate concentration camps and rake Hitler's Eagle's Nest hideout. United by their experience, the two reconnected at the war's end and have been the best of friends ever since. Their story is a tribute to the lasting bond forged between comrades in arms - and to all those who fought for freedom.

Great narration and narrator

Dick Hill is probably the best narrator I have ever heard. When he has a great story, he’s in a
league of his own. This is that great story!

Remarkable Friendship

This book had all of the emotions of life. I laughed so hard sometimes. I teared up sometimes. I almost it should be required reading. I really enjoyed it. I felt like Bill and Babe were next to me drinking beer and telling war stories.

Sheer Excellence

I have read most WWII books written by actual soldiers. This book may top all of them. Exciting, funny and sad...it encompasses all.

What an amazing life

They may not want to be called hero's but they along with their fellow soldiers are the true definition of a Hero.

Fabulous story

My husband and I loved the Band of Brothers miniseries and loved the book, as well. We just watched the miniseries for about the 12th time, and for some reason this was the time that I became very interested to read more about these men. I'm thrilled that I found this book, and will be forever changed by knowing more of the story of these two friends. I come away wishing I could have met them, bought them a beer or three, and gotten them started on some story telling. Hopefully Bill would have surmised that I was a person worthy of his time.
