A hilarious and inspiring memoir about one young woman's journey to find a better path to both physical and mental health.
At 29, Kelsey Miller had done it all: crash diets, healthy diets, and nutritionist-prescribed "eating plans", which are diets that you pay more money for. She'd been fighting her un-thin body since early childhood and, after a lifetime of failure, finally hit bottom. No diet could transform her body or her life. There was no shortcut to skinny salvation. She'd dug herself into this hole, and now it was time to climb out of it.
With the help of an intuitive eating coach and fitness professionals, she learned how to eat based on her body's instincts and exercise sustainably, without obsessing over calories burned and thighs gapped. But with each thrilling step toward a healthy future, she had to contend with the painful truths of her past.
Big Girl chronicles Kelsey's journey into self-loathing and disordered eating - and out of it. This is a memoir for anyone who's dealt with a distorted body image, food issues, or a dysfunctional family. It's for the late bloomers and the not yet bloomed. It's for everyone who's tried and failed and felt like a big, fat loser. So, basically, everyone.

SciFi/Fantasy and Classics to History, Adventure and Memoirs to Social Commentary—I love and listen to it all!
Here I am creeping up on 50, and not a single bite of food has passed my lips without being carefully considered since I was 14. I snapped this book up like a fuzz-free M&M that's been on the floor for less than five seconds.
Kelsey is so very, very open about her life, her childhood. This is mostly a truly honest autobiography about her struggles with food, her struggles to be loved and accepted. It is painful, it is raw, it is warm, it is laugh tho' you just took a sip of water funny. And it's inspiring.
One of the first questions she's asked by her new intuitive eating coach goes along the lines of, "What if you're free from all your food worries and your body's just meant to be that weight?" That really, really made me think, and quite frankly, it made the entire book worth the credit right there. But the way Kelsey lives the answer makes the book worth the time you spend listening because there's a lot of give and take, a lot of back and forth, and the mind is a treacherous place to be.
If you're looking for a step-by-step, How-To book, this isn't it.
If you're looking for a place to start, an example of how someone started to love and accept herself and life as it is, this is a great place to begin the process of untying those knots and tangles we've all become
As you pick up this book, you might think I'm not fat so do I really need to read this? Yes you do. Kelsey is an amazing writer and brings to life a story we all share: The Diet struggle. Though she has so much more to say, you should really read the book instead of just reading this review. I will read and reread this book for years to come. Kelsey is just like me and struggles with many of the same issues. But she shows me that nothing is impossible and we are all works in progress. Kelsey if you read this, Thank you for an amazing book and an awesome story. Thanks for telling it and sharing it with us!
I've an avid reader but a very active mom so no time for reading unless is read to me - love Audible!
I was hoping for a funny and engaging book, but it wasn't. I only listened to the first chapter or 2 and quit listening to it because I just really wasn't engaged.
I can relate with someone the author's life struggles. I enjoying knowing her story, and how it made me think of mine. Life is a journey and not a destination.
struggled to finish. I didn't care for the writing, narration or the story. it's like listening to a child who thinks they are hilarious but you already know the punch line.
Loved the audiobook. I listened to it during a road trip. When I got home, the last 18 minutes were still remaining. I stayed in my car on my driveway to finish it, it was just that good. She tells her story in a very entertaining and funny way.
