When James Bowen found an injured, ginger street cat curled up in the hallway of his sheltered accommodation, he had no idea just how much his life was about to change. James was living hand to mouth on the streets of London and the last thing he needed was a pet. Yet James couldn't resist helping the strikingly intelligent tom cat, whom he quickly christened Bob. He slowly nursed Bob back to health and then sent the cat on his way, imagining he would never see him again. But Bob had other ideas. Soon the two were inseparable and their diverse, comic and occasionally dangerous adventures would transform both their lives, slowly healing the scars of each other's troubled pasts. A Street Cat Named Bob is a moving and uplifting story that will touch the heart of anyone who hears it.

I am a total audiobook addict! I travel quite a bit for work and listen to them while I drive. Always searching for a good author to follow
Everything!! It was such a lovely heart warming story
Of course it was the fantastic Bob
He was lovely to listen and really bought the story to life
They lost each other a few times but when they found each other again it was very moving
I am a total cat lover and adore stories about them. I had seen James and Bob on YouTube and just loved the story. I can't wait to read the next book James has written about Bob. Big kudos to James for turning his life around with the love and support of a lovely ginger kitty :)
Say something about yourself!
I would prefer this audio edition to the print version. The narrator does a wonderful job.
I loved all of this story, and I hope Bob and his mate will be happy together for many, many years to come!
This book actually made me cry several times. And I NEVER cry when I read books!
I would recommend this book to any animal lover, such a beautiful story of trust and love.
I would recommend this book to any of my friends who have ever had a connection with an animal. This is a delightful and simple story of two beings finding each other and affecting each others' lives
It took me a little while to get used to the narrator, the style was simple and casual. I enjoyed the imagery of Bob perched atop shoulders, travelling with him to work unperturbed.
This story made me smile a lot, recollecting pets long since past. I have a soft spot for ginger cats
"Makes me want to walk my cat..."
I too have a stocky ginger tom cat with the most incredible personality. Mine of course if far lovelier(!), but Bob is a very special boy too, and so I fell in love with this story and want to tell the world. This books made me laugh out loud, often go ahhhh, feel my blood boil when someone's nasty to him and cheer out loud when Bob bopsa boisterous bulldog.
I read about this man and cat on the Metro ages ago, but unfortunately never went to see them, and so at least with this download I've been able to hear all about their story.
Not just for cat obsessed freaks, this is also an inspiring tale one of a man turning his life around, (albeit aided by his furry little pal).
And even if you don't like the story, just download it to have that cover image picture on your iPhone...HOW CUTE!
This is a lovely listen. I would love a cat like Bob. Heartwarming audio book.
"Fell in love with James and Bob!"
Love, Luck and Special.
It's a true story and I loved hearing how they saved each other. It was lovely to hear their story, the special bond they created and you couldn't help but love them both.
This is a hard time but I'd have to say Bob the cat, followed closely by James.
Oh yes definitely, in fact I almost did. I didn't end up getting much sleep that night as I couldn't stop listening. I always wanted to know what was next.
This book touched me from the very beginning, such a special true story. Even as I remember listening to the story now I have a smile on my face and happy memories. This really is a very special book, a truly amazing true story and the narrator really made listening to this book a pleasure. As soon as I finished the book I wanted to know more and went searching for the videos of Bob that had been mentioned. I was in love with Bob already and only fell more in love when I saw the videos. Both Bob and his owner James are truly special, I finished this book wishing I could talk to them both...to meet them. I also raved about the book to my husband who started to listen as soon as he had the chance. Highly recommended, fantastic true story and the narrator was truly amazing too.
"listen to this book"
This is a wonderful story - I enjoyed every second and didn't want the story to end. I hope there is a sequel
This book is a glimpse into the lives of the eponymous Bob and his human friend, James. It shows how much can be gained by giving. James cares for Bob, and in return finds his way to a fuller, more rewarding life.
Bob is the star. The way he's described, reminded me of many ginger cats I have known.
The one that tells of Bob's tenacity in refusing to use the litter tray!
The moment of recognition when Bob was reunited with James after a distressing time in Covent Garden which frightened Bob and made him run away.
Lovely, life-affirming book. All the better for being a true story.
"Heart warming story"
Loved this book. Uplifting relationship between man and cat and the massive life change, commitment and pleasure it brought
Brings the emotion and fear of wrongful arrest to life
A second in a cats nine lives
"An inspirational and thought provoking story"
I will definitely listen to this again as it's such an amazing story. James Bowen writes so honestly about his life and how Bob helped to transform it. He is so honest and yet not obviously emotive which is why it fills your heart and head as you listen and afterwards too.
I always thought I had an open mind and opinion of the homeless plight and the influence of drugs on a persons life. This though really opened my eyes and is a must read for everyone for this reason.
Kris Milne is a brilliant narrator. I will look for more stories read by him as I just loved him. I sometimes forgot he actually wasn't the author as his account so was so heartfelt.
Yes! I didn't but I easily could have.
I'm not a natural cat lover, we're a family if dog owners. Don't be put off. Whilst Bob is the star of the story, this book is about so much more that owning a cat, it's about someone's life turning round for all the right reasons and so deserved.
"An enjoyable light read"
No. Decent book...but overhyped. The story of a recovering drug addict who busks on the streets of London and the ginger cat he adopts. A remarkable tale... but told with significant repetition and not a lot of depth.
"Should be 5 stars"
I loved Bob right from the beginning. To be ultra-critical though, the narration seemed "false" and irritated me. From the off it sounded like it was being read from the page and not spoken; first I thought it was a poor narrator but no, he is obviously very talented, as evidenced with delivery of a variety of accents later on. So this must be deliberate and then that really irritated me because throughout he portrays James Bowen as an ingenue or a little boy when he clearly is not. A great listen and, having lived in London at the start of the Big Issue era, very moving and I want to follow Bob and James's story.
I was surprised by how much tension there is in this tale. It's well read and has a good structure. It didn't take me long to listen to it as, once I'd started, I didn't want to stop. I'm going to use my next credits to buy the follow-up.
