Publisher's Summary

The phenomenal number one best seller about best friends James and Bob. Now a major motion picture starring Luke Treadaway.

Shortlisted for: Popular Non-Fiction Book of the Year - Specsavers National Book Awards 2012

When James Bowen found an injured, ginger street cat curled up in the hallway of his sheltered accommodation, he had no idea just how much his life was about to change. James was living hand to mouth on the streets of London and the last thing he needed was a pet. Yet James couldn't resist helping the strikingly intelligent tom cat, whom he quickly christened Bob. He slowly nursed Bob back to health and then sent the cat on his way, imagining he would never see him again. But Bob had other ideas. Soon the two were inseparable and their diverse, comic and occasionally dangerous adventures would transform both their lives, slowly healing the scars of each other's troubled pasts. A Street Cat Named Bob is a moving and uplifting story that will touch the heart of anyone who hears it.

"An eye opener and a great read"

I don't normally write reviews but felt I had to for this book. I enjoyed it so much and it has make me look at people on the street in a whole new light. Thank you for sharing this part of you and Bob's story. I'm grateful to you for helping me to think differently and for reminding all of us that it only takes a minute to smile and say hello. None of us should feel invisible.

    Story
    "A cat exploited!"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Had the writing not been so repetitive, cringy and trite.

What could James Bowen have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

James Bowen often writes, "No one was interested in me" or 'people taken against me' and I can understand why. I'm not surprised his family gave up on him and he has no friends. He comes across as a selfish, arrogant person who constantly 'bends' the rules to suit himself and then whines in self pity when having to face the consequences.

Would you be willing to try another one of Kris Milnes’s performances?

No. I found his performance stilted.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Annoyance that someone can so clearly exploit a cat and yet claim otherwise!

I listened to this story while I was on my ways in London. I loved the performance and I was more than once moved to tears. I would love to have a mate like Bob. Fantastic book!

    Story
"A tale of a man and his cat named Friendship."

This is a good listen which slowly unwraps life of an ordinary man, James, who meets a cat that casts a spell on him and brings his life back into a happy, healthy and caring place. Friendship and trust which grow between James and Bob - the cat is like no other.

This true story is full of empathy, basic human emotions and warms the hearts, but don't be mistaken, the story also reveals the hardness of life on the streets and incredible hope that shows amazing strength that can be found within.

Kris Milner does an okay job, the recording is clear and easy to listen, however it is not a memorable and outstanding performance.

Overall, the book is well worth spending a credit.

    Story
    "Uplifting story spoiled by narrator"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

James Bowen's review of his life on the streets is enlightening and humbling - what a resilient man. It was fascinating to hear his story and how Bob gave him the confidence to fight back at life.Unfortunately I found the audio version of this book irritating. The male narrator put on different voices for the characters which were inappropriate at times. eg. women/Caribbean/gay/wealthy/thug etc. This detracted from my enjoyment which was sad.Great book but poor choice of narrator in my opinion.
