Publisher's summary

At only five years old, Saroo Brierley got lost on a train in India. Unable to read or write or recall the name of his hometown or even his own last name, he survived alone for weeks on the rough streets of Calcutta before ultimately being transferred to an agency and adopted by a couple in Australia.

Despite his gratitude, Brierley always wondered about his origins. Eventually, with the advent of Google Earth, he had the opportunity to look for the needle in a haystack he once called home and pore over satellite images for landmarks he might recognize or mathematical equations that might further narrow down the labyrinthine map of India. One day, after years of searching, he miraculously found what he was looking for and set off to find his family.

A Long Way Home is a moving, poignant, and inspirational true story of survival and triumph against incredible odds. It celebrates the importance of never letting go of what drives the human spirit: Hope.

Very Good

Good narrator, touching true story. Quite detailed but the detail is necessary to get the whole astounding story.

Exceptional

I loved every moment of this book. The reading was easy to listen to. I am thankful for being able to share in the experience of a child's life in India.

Great read👍🏻

What a story. Wow...loved it. Five years old and surviving alone in Calcutta. Wow, this would make a great movie.

There are miracles!

While this book exposes the horrors, evils, filth, and incredible poverty that is India, the true story is a reminder of the good fortune I have and that there are average people who display immense kindness despite their own circumstances. Thank you Saroo for sharing your amazing story with us. I look forward to seeing the film version . May Ganesh continue to guide you and your loved ones with good fortune, love and peace. I wish the millions of beautiful children of India fated to experience unspeakable lives someday be ameliorated.

Good but not great

What helped me appreciate this book was watching a similar story in a movie. It was slow in many parts, but hard to blame someone’s life for slowing down at times. Overall not a great book, but worth the listen if [Spoiler Alert!] his general story of being lost, then found and adopted by Australians, then searching for and finding lost family members again, appeals to you.

Totally loved it!!!

I hung on every word, wondering how this sweet child made it through his dangerous circumstances, and then how he could have survived seemingly undamaged emotionally. I didn't want to stop listening and was sad when it ended.

Brilliant story. Terrible narration

The main character speaks English as his first language. Why not cast the voice actor accordingly? I really wanted to lose myself in this tale but the narration was a constant distraction.

Tremendously awesome book.

This is a fantastic book detailing an amazing story. God definitely had a plan for this guy. Amazing how he survived as a 5 yr old boy on his own. I guess he was used to doing what he had to do to survive.
