Publisher's summary

The past is always at your heels....

Quinn O'Brion and Kate Tassel, two community journalists, tapped into a dark power last Halloween in order to stop a vicious serial killer. But they are still grappling with their new abilities - and wondering if what they unleashed may soon consume them.

While they confront what they have become, a new threat is hunting them - a force that could destroy their whole town.

Band of Demons continues the epic story of The Sanheim Chronicles, a trilogy that blends mystery, suspense, and urban fantasy.

Great reading of great book

I first read 'Band of Demons' upon its release a few years ago. Having just read a few of Blackwell's Soren Chase books, I wanted to re read the Sanheim trilogy. Short on time, I decided to try the audio version and was again impressed by the story and wowed by Mr. Gill's excellent voice acting. His mastery of the accents of the dialects of the British isles helps the listener keep track of the characters and draws one further into the story.

Better than the first book

Really, quite a bit better than the first novel. 3.5 stars. Brian did a noticeably better job this time around. I'm looking forward to book 3.

Wonderful follow-up to book one.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Highly engaging. The slow transition from a semi-typical serial killer to a highly unusual supernatural thriller (based on Irish mythology and early American goth horror) worked very well, surprisingly. I would not have thought so had someone cursorily told me about it, yet it does. This book is the second of a trilogy and the supernatural themes are much more fully developed in this novel.

What other book might you compare Band of Demons to and why?

As noted above, the supernatural themes are much more fully developed in this, Backwell's second novel. Those who enjoyed the transition from a serial-killer manhunt to a highly unusual supernatural thriller should be pleased with this extension of the latter theme.

What about Brian J. Gill’s performance did you like?

Gill is excellent in his performances of both of Backwell's novels. His accents are believable and he nails the nuanced vocal inflections that this text sometimes demands.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes but I won't say what. It would be a major spoiler!

Any additional comments?

Strongly recommended.

good story but,

with out revealing to much they story was great. Suspense was fun. the only issue I had was I hoped for more flair, deeper description at the end. it was just over to quick for me. However I can't wait to see what comes next.
