Publisher's summary
It was supposed to be easy...it turned out to be murder.
In the thrilling start to the Trask Brothers Murder Mystery Series, identical twin brothers Dave and Don hunt a silent killer terrorizing anglers in the great north woods.
"Spellbinding! I could not put it down. It will keep you on the edge all the way to the end."
When Dave Trask ran for sheriff of wild Lake County, he thought the job would entail locating lost campers and catching poachers, and he didn’t really expect to get elected. He was wrong on both counts.
Before he can be sworn in, two guests at a small fishing lodge are discovered brutally murdered. As Dave surveys the murder scene, he becomes aware of two things: he has an inexperienced staff and he will be looking for a killer who walked up to his victims unseen and then disappeared into the wilderness.
As the murders continue, they threaten to destroy the tourism business vital to the county and set off a war between lodge owners and Native American guides. Dave feels his only choice is to enlist the help of his identical twin Don, lead agent for the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. But their hunt for the killer does not go as planned.
"Great story! Reminds me of something William Kent Krueger would write." - Jack B.
"This was a great beginning to the series." - Kindle Reader
"The story, set in the wild country of Minnesota, captured my interest from the start - and kept it to the very last page." - George P.
Readers of John Sanford, William Kent Krueger, Tami Hoag, James Patterson and like authors will enjoy this fast-paced thriller.

Story
My husband and I are fighting for our lives in hospital after a terrible car accident. But despite my pain, all I can think about is what our families will find behind our front door. The scarf that has been all over the news, belonging to a dead young woman with honey-coloured hair. I have to speak to the police before my husband can. I’m drifting in and out of consciousness, but when I hear my wife talking to the police, accusing me of the murder of an innocent woman, a cold fear grips me. I know I’ve got a temper.

Story
She heard the throaty growl, deep and low, before she saw the eyes - glowing orbs in the night. By then it was too late. "Nelson is a great storyteller. The Trask Brothers mysteries are not to be missed." When a biologist working at the Wolf Center is found dead, possibly killed by a wolf, sheriff Dave Trask is only mildly interested. Wolves are housed and studied at the Wolf Center, and it is on property owned by the Lax Lake tribe, so the tribal police will be responsible to look into her death. But when Dave views the scene, he and the police chief from Lax Lake suspect that this may ...

Story
"She was always afraid of you. Even today. Even on the day she might die." Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agent Don Trask is jerked from a blissful fall weekend with his girlfriend, Lieutenant Melanie Jenkins of the Stillwater Police, when Jenkins’s sister is brutally attacked. The attack is a warning to Trask to stay out of the business of a mysterious leader of a drug ring known only as ‘Diablo’ and it tears apart the relationship of Trask and Jenkins. Story
There was something heavy in the bag. SOMETHING DEAD. There was no escaping the heat and humidity. Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Agent Danny Carlisle sat in her car, the air conditioner running. It was not the Florida-like weather on this Minnesota morning that was keeping her in her car. It was not the piles of garbage that lined the streets, remnants of a just-ended strike, although the odor that hung in the air was part of it. What made Danny hesitate was a specific bag of garbage to her right, inside a tent, the contents of which was about to ruin her day. But what Danny ...

Story
Missing girls, no one missed. A small town with big secrets. The snow was coming down hard now, but she couldn’t feel it on her cheeks, her face frozen. She was thirsty and tried to scoop some up to put in her mouth, but her hands no longer seemed to work and her arms would not move. Rest. She needed to rest. Just for a moment. Durant lay back and closed her eyes, and the snow began to cover her, a blanket too cold to help, but there was no energy left to fight the fatigue. The last thing she was aware of was an approaching sound, something she had heard before in the night—the howling ...

Story
It was there, a fortune waiting for him to claim it. If he could stay alive. Sheriff Dave Trask studies the horribly disfigured body on the rocky shore of Lake Superior. The man is wearing a life jacket but there is no sign of his boat, his craft possibly lost in the storm the previous night. As events unfold, Trask begins to believe that the man may have been the victim of a hit and run on the lake, the possibility of finding the boat that killed the man slim to none. Then Trask discovers something more. The man belonged to an eccentric group, women and men who gather monthly to discuss ...

Young women, fit, in shape – and dead. Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) agent Danny Carlisle is not happy. She has been pulled from a developing smuggling investigation to assist the Duluth police in their search for two missing young women. The animated computer voice
While the computer voice is fairly good, someone should listen to the stories afterwards and correct the mispronunciations (I.e. decent instead of descent).

The AI reading sucks, words pronounced wrong the voice actually saying semi colon bordering on monotone. Virtual voice sucks!
Virtual voice is horrible! Emotionless pronouncing things wrong saying semi colon like you need to read the punctuation! The story is good but the AI voice reader is horrible!

Story is good…. Virtual voice is not
I believe the virtual voice loses the inflection and dynamics that a reader has. Makes it hard to stay tuned in

Having a book read to me by a robot is very unappealing. Inflection was absent or incorrect
I will no longer listen to books without real live human readers with feelings and inflections
