A sense of understanding
This a great understanding of narcissists from childhood trauma to even genetics. We may not realize we have these qualities in ourselves, and this book contains exercises to help reflect and change those qualities while being wary of those who show signs of narcissism and how to deal with/avoid them.

Not Just for Narcissistic Personality
How to Stop Being a Narcissist is an interesting introduction to narcissistic personality and ways to alleviate the negative aspects it presents. This book does not limit itself to the idea of only individuals diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder. Instead, it takes a broad approach acknowledging that all individuals have some narcissistic tendencies.
The book begins by defining and offering a concrete explanation of narcissism. Each point throughout this book is backed by scientific research, citing multiple sources. It explores how narcissism develops both from a genetic and environmental standpoint. It also helps the reader understand the trauma that can arise from individuals who subject others to their narcissism.
Each chapter ends with a list of the key points to remember. Additionally, it includes self-reflection exercises to immediately allow the reader to apply the knowledge they have gained. Each exercise also has an example attached to help prompt the reader’s response.
The book moves from a simple discussion of narcissism into concrete ways to stop being a narcissist. These include shifting our focus from ourselves, letting go of control, building empathy skills, and understanding emotional dysregulation.
Although this book is not a replacement for help from a professional, I believe it is a great companion to help develop a more compassionate state of being.
The bonus content includes two worksheets to help begin identifying narcissistic tendencies. The first is a narcissistic triggers tracker that allows you to monitor triggers throughout the week and what situations they arise within. The second worksheet is for identifying specific narcissistic triggers. It allows you to identify the trigger, determine what specifically causes the reaction, how you typically react, and why you should stay in control in the face of those triggers. I believe these worksheets are a valuable addition to the book that will allow the reader to begin working on their narcissistic tendencies immediately.
