Publisher's summary

The audiobook features a bonus conversation between Gregg Hurwitz and #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Gardner, author of the award-winning Detective D. D. Warren novels.

Evan Smoak returns in The Last Orphan, the next New York Times bestselling Orphan X thriller—when everything changes and everything is at risk.

As a child, Evan Smoak was plucked out of a group home, raised and trained as an off-the-books assassin for the government as part of the Orphan program. When he broke with the program and went deep underground, he left with a lot of secrets in his head that the government would do anything to make sure never got out.

When he remade himself as The Nowhere Man, dedicated to helping the most desperate in their times of trouble, Evan found himself slowly back on the government's radar. Having eliminated most of the Orphans in the program, the government will stop at nothing to eliminate the threat they see in Evan. But Orphan X has always been several steps ahead of his pursuers.

Until he makes one little mistake...

Now the president has him in her control and offers Evan a deal—eliminate a rich, powerful man she says is too dangerous to live and, in turn, she'll let Evan survive. But when Evan left the Program he swore to only use his skills against those who really deserve it. Now he has to decide what's more important—his principles or his life.

Orphan X falling short

Characters all back and Scott Brick again delivers but Hurwitz needs to up his game. Sad to see Liberal Bias creeping into the story and subtle woke nonsense raising its head.

I guess not even great writers can hit a home run every time but Hurwitz capitalizing on his past is sadly commonplace today.

Still a good listen... but falls short.

Love Hurwitz/Orphan X -but done with Scott Brick

Gregg Hurwitz is a skilled writer and storyteller, and I thoroughly enjoy the Orphan X series. But after many years and many audio books, I am done with Scott Brick. His overly dramatic and self-attention narration distracts from the story, and finally after 4 hours of listening, I turned it off. Will continue with Hurwitz and his work through print or Kindle.

Just keeps getting better

Another incredible ride and arc in the story of Evan (Orphan X). All the favorite characters are back, and we continue to get more backstory on why and how they became who they are.

Great as usual

I love Gregg Hurwitz’s writing style and he really brings the characters to life. It’s so fun to watch Evan try to navigate through his social awkwardness and how his relationships with other people are growing and changing as well. Scott Brick is one of the best narrators on the planet and he does a fantastic job bring Evan and company to life.

The best thing about this series

Is the growth that Evan Smoak experiences over the story arc. He continues to grow as a character. Can’t wait for more.
