Publisher's summary

Sassy, savvy, smart-mouthed bounty hunter Stephanie Plum is back in her most thrilling adventure yet! This time she's on the trail of revenge-seeking waitress Maxine Nowicki, who's wanted for theft, extortion, and bail-jumping. Those who have seen Maxine keep turning up dead, and that's the least of Stephanie's problems. She's also dealing with an archrival bounty hunter and an enemy who favors firebombs. The only ones on Stephanie's side are a nutty grandma, an ex-hooker, and a transvestite rock star, plus of course, her loyal hamster Rex. Stephanie's previous escapades have been chronicled in One for the Money, Two for the Dough, and Three to Get Deadly.

speed reading a novel

The reader sounds like she is speed reading her way through the book! I couldn't take it and had to stop listening before the end of the first chapter.

I would repurchase this book if Lorelei King read it.

Another great one but get a new narrator

If you could sum up Four to Score in three words, what would they be?

Loved the storyline,

What was one of the most memorable moments of Four to Score?

The treasure hunt

How could the performance have been better?

The story was performed very rapidly and very monotone. There was little to no distinction between characters. There were also changes in pronunciation of names from the previous audiobooks.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but I had to relisten to much of it because of the poor narration

fun

i thought this book was hysterical. a perfect combination of mystery and humor...and debi mazar's voice was the right fit for the jersey girl in the story.

The misfits are back

Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter, is back along with Morelli, Grandma Mazur, Lula, Ranger and with the addition of a 6 foot plus transvestite. These are the funniest, quirky characters you will ever meet. It seems that none of the people in Stephanie's life are entirely normal, which makes them very likable. Stephanie is destined to unravel the most preposterous crimes, in spite of her stumbling ways and group of misfits.

Although this is a funny detective story it did not hold my interest as well as the first three novels in the series. I laughed more with the other ones.

I also did not care for the fact that Stephanie and Morelli, who abused her in her youth, got together in this book. I feel that Janet Evanovich sent a bad message by including this in the novel.

That said, the book was still fast paced and light with many laugh out loud moments. Evanovich continues to add to this misfit group with laughter in mind. My favorite character is Gramdma Mazur. I hope she has a stronger presence in the next book. She reminds me of the character "Mama" that was on the Carol Burnett show.

The reader was not as good as the previous gal. She talked a little to fast even for an East Coaster making it difficult to understand her at times.

Love the series!

This is the first time I have read this author and have fallen in love with the Stephanie Plum series. I downloaded all 13 books and listened to them all within a week. I couldn’t wait to hear what adventures (and mishaps!) that Stephanie, Joe, Ranger, Lula and the rest of the gang would get into. I’ve read some of the previous reviews. I agree with some and disagree with others. I disagree that it gets old and complacent that Stephanie finds herself in the same situations in every book. It appears to me that Stephanie’s character is just one of those people that trouble and mayhem seem to find. I do agree that narrator Lori Petty is the voice of Stephanie. Narrator Debi Mazar’s accent is a bit heavy for audio books and then after all this Lorilei King takes over as narrator for the rest of the series. While Ms. King’s character voices are awesome (she has such a range!) her Stephanie voice has no Jersey accent at all and sound just a little too “blue blood”. Otherwise Ms. King is a joy to listen to. You will fall in love with Ranger and Joe! Both are too hot to handle……no wonder Stephanie can’t choose between the two!

Don’t let the narrator changes deter you from listening to this funny charming, and at times mysterious series. You won’t be disappointed if you’re looking for something light hearted to listen to.

terrible narrator took away from the story.

The narrator was horrible. She talked way too fast. I will avoid books she narrates

Great book but...

The abridged version comes off as rushed and the Debi Mazar is nowhere near as good as the readers for the unabridged versions. She sounds bored half the time and kinda leaves the story dead. Four to Score is one of the more important books in the series so I recommend either reading it or listening to the unabridged audio version. Three stars but the book itself is a five star read.
