Publisher's summary

Fans of Patricia Briggs, Eva Truesdale, Jennifer Snyder, and Ailen Erin will fall in love with the Summer Omega series.

Nightmares are doomed to repeat themselves.

Shelby Brooks learned she is a werewolf on the same night she learned that love and betrayal go hand in hand. She was 16. Now, going into her senior year in a new town, love is the last thing Shelby is looking for, but she finds herself irresistibly drawn to Kale, the son of an Alpha.

As her heart slowly reopens to the possibility of happiness, threats mount, and her very presence brings mortal danger to Kale and his entire pack. Is her destiny to be a savior? Or a harbinger of death, as the Summer Omega prophecies foretell? Shelby Brooks must reach deep within and discover what lies there, something she fears to unleash.

Took a chance. Glad I did

Where does Awakening rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Best so far this year

Who was your favorite character and why?

Shelby and "Swearing Sadie" by far

Any additional comments?

I took a chance on this book on a whim and happy I did. The characters really came alive, probably because the narrator was awesome, but I don't mean to say the book was written well. Some hilarious parts as well! Story was not very predictable, which is always a plus. The romance: I feel like this was romantic urban fantasy rather than romance with some fantasy elements. That's fine, but if you're looking for steamy hot sexy bedroom scenes, this won't have it. But the romance scenes are really well done. There's more action that you might expect from a book in this genre. YA safe.

I really wanted to like this book

There were a couple of things that got on my nerves with this book. First, I don't like weak heroines. The author made this girl seem about 10 years old instead of 16 or 17 years old. Now it could be the narrator's voice for Shelby, it was very irritating as if she equated young with dumb. And oh my goodness the Cussing best friend was way too over the top, which scraped my nerves. I got past all that, and then we got to the battle. The battle was stupid, or maybe what was stupid was all the dialogue and internal angst between every punch! Good Lord!!! Why make your heroine, so stupid! Young does not equal stupid. smh

PRETTY MUCH FLAWLESS

Debut release, and the author knocked it out of the park for me. You know certain things are going to happen, but other twists caught me totally off guard. Great romance, great build up, perfect teenage awkward moments.
I laughed so hard at the banter!
I melted in the romance of it.
I jumped at some of the action scenes and probably bit my nails.
Just a fantastic YA PNR book. Hope next book is soon.

Definitely not twilight

A refreshing take on a paranormal romance. There is great character building, a strong female lead, and an intriguing background story. Awakening is very well written and I was engaged and entertained from start to cliff hanger. Definitely worth reading!

Be prepared to lose some sleep!

So... just finished Awakening. Coming of age twilightesk book with a Cooper twist. It was a fun fast listen. Kate Reading crushed it as usual. The character building is super strong and there is a ton of world building to expand on. Swearing Sadie’s character must have been a blast to write. I could see the author writing ‘her’ in my minds eye the whole time. I loved Bubba too, great comic relief! Can’t wait for the next installment!

JK Cooper keep cranking, you’ve found an audience and we can’t wait for more!

Really...the best I've listened to in a long time

The book is winner. Great PNR. Characters are just awesomely created. Funny and serious, petty and caring. Complex but so human...no pun intended. Yes, I love werewolf stories, so I'm inclined toward this kind of series, but the quality here is several steps above the genre's norm. I sense a deep backstory and history that has really drawn me in. And the romance was not cheesy, even though at first you're not sure why the main characters are drawn to each other, but the reason is gradually unveiled. I loved the magic of it all. Summer Omega is a winner.

HIGH MARKS!

Bought this book for a road trip, and what a trip this book made it. We didn't want to get out of the car. I was suddenly driving the speed limit to extend our time :D The narrator really brought the story to life.

1. Characters. Very good. Believable. I cared for them and hated them (for the right reasons of course)
2. Dialogue. Natural. And funny! This book had more humor than I was expected.
3. Story. Some parts were predictable, but still really good! Other parts were totally off the wall, which made me rewind once or twice. That's how bad I got thrown a couple times.
4. Romance. Very romantic, but not slutty. YA safe, but for the girls out there, my wife teared up and I thought she would melt away on me during a couple spots.
5. Fantasy. Hints of it. Deeper backstory on Lycans and a much larger fantasy world looms on the edges of tis story. I think more will come.
6. Action. No shortage here. At. All. Buckle up.

Not usually an audiobook person, but this was a great one. More please!

Great start to the series

The story is good. A lot of twists and turns, but not enough to get lost. The voice used for the best friend and for Bubba needs some refinement. The best friend came off as whiny and nerdish with the voice instead of sassy as her character seems to be. Great plot twist with Bubba, but the African American voice and inflection needs some work.

very good book!!

1st off I have to say I love Kate Reading as a narrator.

2nd this book was a very fun surprise. you thought it was going to go one way and it went another. it was a fun read and will be moving to the next.

3rd I was not impressed at first by the relationship between the main characters at first. as time went on I finally realized why they had the sort of bond and it didn't feel cheesy after that.

I can't wait to start the next book!!
