Publisher's summary

Deadly competition. Deep desert. A dying tyrant.

Finn Harris was declared the Mage Guild's champion.

However, that was only the beginning of the Emir's competition. The next stage will send Finn and his companions deep into the desert north of Lahab in search of a long-lost relic. The magical artifact is said to be held within the Abyss.

Except, this time, he's not just facing novice mages. Everyone in the region seems to be arrayed against him, god and man alike. Racing against the other two champions, swept into the middle of a conflict between the Emir and those he's wronged, and at the mercy of a manipulative fire goddess, Finn must battle his way through the Abyss and claim his prize.

Yet he will not stop, and he cannot afford to fail - not with Rachael's life hanging in the balance.

He will need to embrace his gifts and overcome his past.

Finn will need to become a true prophet of the flame.

the story is strong, captivating, and makes you feel for the characters. I look forward to the next part of this great story.

Slightly disappointed

I expected this book to be last in series about Finn's adventures. His story arc is interesting, but way to long.

Another thing that bothered me: All that time Finn had a powerup ability, his Thrump card he got from Seer. And he Never. Ever. even mentioned this amazing ability, or explain why he doesn't use it in most dire situations. Like author just forgot about it or something. idn.

Another great Awaken Online title

I really enjoy all the AO books. I wouldn't say it's the best writing in the whole world, they are all kinda just surface level cinematic fun, but that's all that I ask of them. They deliver. I like the idea of journeying with different characters in the same universe. I'll definitely jump onto book 3.

As a sidenote, I would love for the author to start up another character series that has a young, carefree, funny character. Some early teen doing the funny dumb stuff a kid of that age does in a mmorpg, especially if he stumbled onto great power in a game like AO. Kinda like a Shazam scenario but in-game. Maybe he pretends he's much older when he befriends a girl player in her twenties.

Felt like a lot of filler

I love the Awaken Online series and jumped to start listening to this spinoff. In truth, this turned my 3 star review into 4. The first book is amazing and really well done. This second installment, while very well written, felt like 3/4 filler. The characters were forced to stay in specific situations for much longer than interesting with seemingly no real danger once they figured out a formula to defeat their foes. I finished the book feeling like maybe 3 hours of this 21 hour story actually moved the story along. As a fan, I'll be picking up book 3 with the hope the story moves forward consistently and doesn't linger like too often here in book 2.

I love the awaken online series. But...

Overall it was a really good book. But by the end it was feeling like it's dragging on too long. Considering the end, I'm worried about that! I really hope Travis doesn't do what some authors do and give up a great story just to write more books. I've quit a few series because of that, the story was lost and the author was just writing to make another book.

I am more sucked in now

I read some reviews that claimed the story lagged. but i just didnt feel that way, I felt that the characters grew and we learned a lot about them. It was like a puzzle each chapter a piece so by the time your at the end your like ohh i see it now.

Amazing addition to the AO Series

At first I downloaded the book grudgingly, not wanting to follow new characters instead of Jason, Riley and Frank. But Finn and Julia are great additions to the AO family of characters and a completely different story within this amazing game world. Highly recommend this gem.

Rocketed good time

Have you ever wondered how many different things can be rocketed? Well this book has your answers and more! Rocks - Rocketed, candles - Rocketed, main characters - Rocketed, Feelings - Rocketed, Mana - Rocketed. Great story and concepts that could stand to get around in more adjective ways than by rocket.

A good addition

The world Bagwell is expanding on has so many facets and he is going a great job of simultaneously exploring them all.
