ONE OF THE BEST YET
I just love this authors books, and this was no exception. Twists, turns, magic and more. Hooked me right off and kept me guessing. I could really go for more stories about this town!

Wonderful!!
Have you ever read a book that makes you smile and clap with glee as you read it? Or listen to as is the case here. I do that with each of Heather Webber's books I've read.
The label magical realism is accurate. If you've read Sarah Addison Allen, Neil Gaiman, Toni Morrison...that's magical realism, blending reality with fantasy.
The story moves and is told by two women, one trying to find her way, the other looks like she has it together but is really not sure she does.
Ava comes to town, Driftwood Alabama, on the whim of a letter she receives of a job offer. She's lived a protected life and she's trying to break away from that cocoon.
Maggie runs her mother's coffeeshop, Magpie's, but her mother disappeared in the sea when Maggie was young. Maggie keeps everything the same, for the day when her mother returns.
Ava starts working for Maggie at the coffeeshop as well as helping Maggie's father clear his house of his treasures.
There's so much going on and it's gently told. I love that I cared about the characters, what was happening to them, worried that something bad was going to happen. Happy when something good happened.
Family is where you find them.
I can absolutely recommend this book and this author.
