Publisher's summary

In the rip-roaring tradition of Red Dawn and The Dirty Dozen, this action-packed thriller from Lt. Col. Hunter Ripley Rip Rawlings IV takes all-American patriotism to an explosive new level....

Assault by Sea

US Marine Tyce Asher knew his fighting days were over when he lost his leg in Iraq. He thought hed never see action again - certainly not on American soil - until the Russians attacked us by sea....

Assault by Land

With so many troops stationed in the Middle East, the US government is counting on Tyce and other reserve fighters to step up and defend their country - when Russian boots hit the ground....

Assault by Fire

This is much more than a surprise attack. It is a full-fledged invasion orchestrated by a military mastermind hellbent on destruction. As the Russians move inland, killing and maiming, Tyce has to enlist every patriot he can find - seasoned vets, armchair warriors, backwoods buckshooters, even mountain moonshiners - to unleash their Second Amendment rights...on America's number-one enemy.

Really enjoyed the book

I’ll definitely be reading the next thing Rip Rawlings writes. Great characters and start to a series.

Fast paced like a racehorse

This book was incredible! I listen to at least 12 books a year while walking the dog, and heard about it in passing in the latest jack Ryan Jr novel. It’s exciting, gripping and well written and read. I can’t wait to hear what’s next!

I cut my losses and bailed early

I love the idea of a wounded warrior being a protagonist in a book like this. I couldn't, however, get past the trite political stereotype of a liberal POTUS, and the questions that came up in my mind about the order in which things unfolded. Can't we just ditch the politics and simply write a good story? The plot was a little too fantastical for me, and the political pandering made it way too simplistic. I shut it down right after the Oval Office was destroyed, and found a novel by a smarter writer to listen to.

I really enjoyed it!

This book was not what I expected, and a great surprise.
It was so refreshing to read a book where the USA has been attacked and the hero was not a perfect human specimen.
Looking forward to the next books

Was this written 40 years ago?

I thoroughly enjoyed Lt Col Rawlings' collaboration with Mark Greaney, "Red Metal", and was looking forward to his first solo book. I fully respect the author's career and military credentials. He just didn't write a great novel. Except for a few modern-day touchstones (AK-12. MIG-35, the Battle of Fallujah) I could swear this book was written during the Cold War era. Archaic views of the National Guard and Reserves, Soviet, er I mean Russian officers ignorant of the most basic U.S. geography,... and the (bad) stereotypes go on and on. I can't even finish it. At this point, the Russians can keep the U.S.

Decent plot but poor execution

I honestly just couldn't get into it. I gave it good 3 hours but many of the plot points are just too farfetched for me. I also did not like the narrator. Save your money, there are better books out there. Go check out Command and Control, or Tipping Point. Both are far superior to this.
