Publisher's summary

Ash Ridley just bonded to a baby phoenix - the most powerful beast in all of Cascadia - and he's hungry, hyperactive, high-maintenance, and hiccups fireballs.

Twelve-year-old Ash waves goodbye to her miserable life as a traveling circus stablehand when she and her feisty bird, Flynn, are whisked away to the Academy of Beasts and Magic: a school where wealthy children train unicorns, manticores, and scarf-wearing ice dragons. The downside to owning such a highly magical beast? Everyone wants him. When a mysterious sorcerer suggests the Academy may have dark intentions, Ash realizes her tiny bird might be the key to saving Cascadia...or destroying it.

Good book and great performance

The book is well written and is quite a good story. The characters are interesting and the world is ripe for expanding stories. The author's enthusiasm for her work is evident in the performance as it builds to a good climax.

A must read!

I loved this book! Great for adults an kids. Whether you know a lot about mythical animals or just a little this book has something for you. From the popular to the obscure, the author puts in animals for everyone. The main character, Ash, is relatable and the story is well written. I listened to it in my own first to preview it and can’t wait to listen to it again with my daughter!

1of the most magical whimsical adventures in years

I finished this in a day I have to say I need to know more I need more Castadia and Ash and Flin in my life. I'm also looking forward to spring :3
I'm a grown ass adult and this made me feel like I was experience harry potter and dragonsong for the 1st time all over again, it made me feel like a kid ^^ and for that I give my praises to the author.
The narration was magnificent being the author of the book her self she made it seem like every delivery had depth, for example !!!SOFT SPOILERS!!! there was a scene where ash and another character were flying Lisa Foiles actually made it sound like there voices were being carried by the wind and those involved in the conversation had to project there voices to be able to talk to one another, !!!END OF SPOILERS!!! there's examples similar to this one throw out the book.
The care and love in this book is simply amazing and I'm eternally grateful to have this story in my life.

Fun fun book

Maybe I’m just biased because Lisa is totally a cool chick. But seriously, her previous career lends to her narration. Not many authors can read well. It’s a cute book and written for young to olde(er)...!

I’m quite happy with both the paper version and the audio!
