This Is Gonna Hurt: Music, Photography And Life Through The Distorted Lens Of Nikki Sixx is all Nikki Sixx. It is a collection of compelling photography and stories that capture the rage, love, optimism, darkness, and determination that shape his work. It chronicles Sixx's experiences - from his early years filled with toxic waste, to his success with Motley Crue, to his death from an OD, and his eventual rebirth through music, photography, and love.
Love story, bad-ass rock tell-all, social commentary, family memoir, This Is Gonna Hurt offers the compelling insights of an artist and a man struggling to survive, connect, and find a happy ending - a search that fuels Sixx's being.

I dont care who you are there is something in this book to inspire everyone to live to their full potential and truly enjoy life. Highly recommend this book! Being read by the author makes it that much better sine he was there and the emotional impact of that makes it real for the listener. Get this book!
Overall this book was a great motivational story about Nikki Sixx life but it could have had more detail about his drug addiction and his family. The book seems very general but very positive. It was a good read and i recommend it to all his fans.
As a photographer I find his insight to art, music, and life as the title implies most interesting.
He is very open about his addictions and personal relationships.
Yes. The part about his sister was very moving.
Highly recommended. If you are into music, art and like to be inspired to live life too the fullest, go for ths book and let the good times roll.
This is good book not just for Nikki Sixx fans but for everyone. He makes you open your eyes and see that we should find beauty in everything not just what is considered beautiful by the media. He released some of his own inner demons and in the process encourages you to do the same thing. If you read the Heroin Diaries then listen to this book you can really hear how much his life has changed, how he went from being a junkie to happy man and it encourages you to work at making your life happier. This book takes you on a journey of finding beauty within yourself so you can be happier.
The photography is provocative in it's views and I love the uniqueness. I have the book and travelled 6 hours to have Nikki Sixx sign it with my husband and son. The audiobook enriches the entire package because Nikki narrates. I recommend to everyone!!!!! I can't wait to get his next book and find Heroin Diaries in Audio form. My personal favorite!
Down right great
Sixx is very true with his words you can just fell I have read the book and have the audio book as well and to hear his voice you can tell how meaningful his own words are.
Huge eye opener...People will be able to get where he is from...
A must read/listen bring on the h.d
Absolutely! This book is so emotional, even with it's darkness!
The Heroin Diaries. Same author, same heart.
If you love Nikki Sixx or even like Motley Crue you have to hear this book. I read the book and then bought the audio book, He makes it so real. His voice is so soothing. The chapter about his sister Lisa makes me cry every time. You can hear the pain in his voice when he talks about her. He is a very proud man, proud of his children and proud of what he has done with his life from the dirt streets and heroin addiction to the man he has become today.
Himself in a raw form
I cry every time I hear the chapter about Lisa
I cannot say I have many auto-biographicals of any other talent in the industry.
indeed...what a character.
I enjoyed the read...Nikki - thanks for the turn on! My journey is everything it needs to be - with all life has to offer!
The look at the beauty in all people.
Due to his unashamed honesty and ability to tell a tale.I believe Nikki Sixx will go down as one of the greatest voices of my generation. He will undoutabley change some peoples worlds.
"Is this guy still high?"
Hated it. I found the book to be about this guys ego. Started ok with the first chapter then went into free fall. To be frank this guy came over as "Mr Know it All" and it was his ego trip. I am not into his music and I would think that if you aren't this book isn't for you.
Having read "The Dirt" and then subsequently each of the members of Motley Crue’s autobiographies I found myself reading “The Heroin Diaries” Nikki’s first book delving into the raw open wound that was his past. I was hooked, I couldn't wait to see what would come out of his mouth next. Open, Honest and sometimes harsh in its reality this book is simply brilliant. Nikki writes with frank open honesty (sometimes to the point of having to pick my jaw up from the floor) and his opinion may not be acceptable to everyone but that's ok.... it is, after all his opinion. I've read and listened to this book more times than I can remember and each time I find something else to re-read or rewind to hear again, often finding myself saying “did he really just say that?!” I loved this book and as with the first one find myself excited, sometimes saddened and yet totally inspired by what's contained in its pages. Punctuated with very clever and darkly beautiful photography its one you really cant put down. Well done Nikki... you did it again. A true great!
