Publisher's summary

The zombie plague unleashes its horrors on the suburbs of Atlanta without warning, pitting the living against the dead. Caught in the mass exodus, Lilly Caul struggles to survive in a series of ragtag encampments and improvised shelters. But the Walkers are multiplying. Dogged by their feral hunger for flesh and crippled by fear, Lilly relies on the protection of good Samaritans by seeking refuge in a walled-in town once known as Woodbury, Georgia.

At first, Woodbury seems like a perfect sanctuary. Squatters barter services for food, people have roofs over their heads, and the barricade expands, growing stronger every day. Best of all, a mysterious self-proclaimed leader named Philip Blake keeps the citizens in line. But Lilly begins to suspect that all is not as it seems.... Blake, who has recently begun to call himself The Governor, has disturbing ideas about law and order.

Ultimately, Lilly and a band of rebels open up a Pandora’s box of mayhem and destruction when they challenge The Governor’s reign - and the road to Woodbury becomes the highway to hell in this riveting follow-up to Robert Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga's New York Times best-selling The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor.

Okay, but...

Meh, it started kind of slow and read too much like a romance novel at times. I really enjoyed the second half.

Killer listen!

Would you listen to The Walking Dead: The Road to Woodbury again? Why?

Yes. How can someone possibly get enough of Walking dead anything? Plus the Governor really gets interesting.

What did you like best about this story?

Lilly and her relationships and how drastically things change so quickly. Plus did I mention the Governor?

Which character – as performed by Fred Berman – was your favorite?

Definitely the Governor with Lilly a close second.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This is a survival book, but even knowing that it still surprised me several times. No time for tears in Woodbury.

Any additional comments?

If you are not a fan of walking dead you will still love this book. Amazingly the humans are more dangerous than the walkers.

The first book is better

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I was really looking forward to this book after reading "The Rise of the Governor." The first book was interesting and kept your attention. This book just does not have the same interesting story. It was a chore trying to finish it :(

Has The Walking Dead: The Road to Woodbury turned you off from other books in this genre?

No

Which scene was your favorite?

None really.

Do you think The Walking Dead: The Road to Woodbury needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Yes. I believe the writers can put out another book as good as the first one.

Another great Walking Dead story

The story was as good as some of the best Walking Dead episodes. Great exposition of one of the most hated characters!

A good page turner.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Well done story, it was better than the first and for the lovers of zombie sci fi, it holds up will for zombie genre. It has good action, and follows smoothly.

If you’ve listened to books by Robert Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga before, how does this one compare?

I get the feeling that it was Jay that wrote this book with Kirkman's assistance.. it follows the walking dead storyline, but was missing something, a little drawn out to make the book longer. Maybe I am too much a fan, but R Kirkman refers to the undead as walkers and biters, while Bonansinga uses the term zombies, and too often uses the word,"supine".

Which scene was your favorite?

Probably where Lily starts to put together things aren't safe in Woodbury, and she is realizing that her friends are disapearing. All I am going to say. read the book.

Was The Walking Dead: The Road to Woodbury worth the listening time?

Yes. It shows a parallel storyline to Rick and the others at the Prison who are surviving following to the zombie virus. The characters are rich in thier developement, only disapointed to see many die off by end.

Any additional comments?

By about the third time they are caught unaware of walkers, and taken by surprise, I am wondering , if these are survivors, then how did they manage to outwit, and survive? I mean, how many were first taken, bitten, and caught in the armagedon, these survivors would definately be sharper, keener and skills honed to pre-awareness of walkers movement towards them.. noise, smell, etc.

Excellent Backstory to the Walking Dead Genre

If you could sum up The Walking Dead: The Road to Woodbury in three words, what would they be?

Prepare. Move. Survive.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Walking Dead: The Road to Woodbury?

The death of Josh Hamilton. I liked his character, much as I liked T Dog from the TV show and Tyrese from the Comic and TV show.

What does Fred Berman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Fred Berman is an excellent narrator. He accents each character with a uniqueness giving each of them a voice. He also provides much needed pauses in the reading allowing the listener to visualize the scene.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

If you are a fan of the Comics and TV Show on AMC, then you should read this book and The Rise of the Governor. That way you can get the full back story of the Governor!

Another great Walking Dead performance!

Cannot wait to rip into the 3rd in the series. Fred Berman does an excellent job narrating and bringing the characters to life (and death).

LUV THE WALKING DEAD ~ ALL OF IT!!

Where does The Walking Dead: The Road to Woodbury rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

this is a great book! I love Robert Kirkman's Walking Dead comic series so when the TV show came out it was a no brainer. Being that the comics & TV show are different from each other in some ways it was nice to know both stories. Then these 2 books came out about the governor. I thought they both were great! The story line doesn't include anything from the TV show which is nice because now the listener gets to hear how one of the characters came about. I truly enjoyed it.

Fred is the perfect voice for this book/series! He can make himself sound like so many different people. It was hard to believe it was one guy reading the story! I am going to look for his other work too. I'm sure those books will be just as great!

Cannot wait for more to come out in this series. I sure hope there will be more!!

AWESOME ADDITION TO THE WALKING DEAD

Profound! Sadistic! Ruthless! Twisted! SURVIVAL! Fear humankind and the zombies!

I could not put this book down. I wish they would have incorporated more elements of The Road to Woodbury in the TV series. Elements that do appear in the series are: Penny, Philip, the heads in jars, and the town. I may be forgetting a couple more.

This book explains the Philip and penny storyline and how Philip came to power. The book is fast paced, filled with teeth gritting, breathe holding, horror.

Buy it NOW awesome series!! More please!

Awesome series. There were a few zombie twists/scenes that were unexpected and nothing was really cliche. Characters were believable. I swear I'm still laughing at the exchange between Sara & her stoner boyfriend in the back of the pickup truck. "Dude you totally farted and it was girl fart" I'm telling you Fred Berman could be on a stage somewhere. He's good!

I mean I swear I listen to alot of books and this is the first one where the material, the scene setup & the presenter made me laugh outloud!

I actually liked both of the books in the series and was pleasantly surprised by that. I LOVE the way the authors set up a chapter so you know what's going to happen but you do NOT know the outcome. Talk about suspense! LOVE it!!!

If you're a walking dead, zombie, apocalypse or syfy fan you HAVE to get these books. I just wish there were more!
