The Notebook

At 31, Noah Calhoun, back in coastal North Carolina after World War II, is haunted by images of the girl he lost more than a decade earlier. Thus begins the story of a love so enduring and deep it can turn tragedy into triumph, and may even have the power to create a miracle.

    "Half a great romance"

Having read two of his other books, I knew I could expect a beautiful romance from Sparks, and I wasn't disappointed. I loved the first half, even found it difficult to turn off, but the climax seemed to come too soon, and I found myself wondering, "What else can happen?" The story seemed to be over." Well, the second half went on and on and nothing else of consequence ever did happen. He seemed to be really stretching. Worse, the last half was overly sentimental, cliche, and redundant. I'd give the first half 5 stars and the second half one.

    "Too sappy...even for a woman"

As a typical female, I usually enjoy love stories. Although this book make me cry because of it's sappy story, it went on for too long, especially towards the end when you feel like the author got the story out and you start wondering why does the book keep on going. There isn't much happening in the book, mainly conversation and reminiscing and since I only listen to audio books in my car, it's not the kind of book that makes time (or traffic) go faster.

    "Not a man"

There is no way that the author is a man, no men actually feel or act that way. It was a great book, a real tear jerker. I wish I had a man who loved that deep and could express his love that way. Don't get me wrong my husband is awesome.

    "Awful"

One dimensional characters, predictable, melodramatic, shallow, a waste of a credit, a complete waste of time

    "the perspective from a man"

Some adjectives to describe the book - trite, boring, predictable, seems like it will never end...you get the picture

"Loved the Movie, Hated the Book"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

This book seems to target a less sophisticated audience who wants there hand held through every page and needs to be kept awake with melodrama and cheesy romance.

What was most disappointing about Nicholas Sparks’s story?

Lack of development in characters and story lines and individual scenes.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

    Narration was good.

What character would you cut from The Notebook?

    None.
