Publisher's summary

"Boy, do I have a lot to learn!" Anyone who's ever picked up a musical instrument of any kind - from the first caveman banging rocks to that little kid at the guitar shop - has thought that. I know I did. I'd been trying for years to break in to the music scene, to show everyone my chops, to make my mark. And I was good. But I wasn't great. I knew that there was something wrong.

"Then the teacher showed up. I didn't ask for him. I didn't think I needed him. And all he said he could teach me was 'nothing'.

"What happened next, you may not believe...I sure didn't...but that didn't stop him."

The Music Lesson is the inspiring story of a young bass player and the lessons he learns about Life, Music, and the Life of Music. Throughout this audiobook is new, original music written by Victor Wooten and a bonus performance by the original supergroup Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.

This book changed me

Granted, I'm a bass player who looks up to Victor quite a bit. But this book can be a fun ride for anyone, including non-musicians. There's a lot of really profound messages that although is portrayed through musicianship can really be applied anywhere in life. As Victor's teacher tells him "music is life". It inspires me to live life more musically outside of playing music, and of course inside of playing music as well.

Victor Wooten's Smashing Book Will Open Your Mind.

Surprising, uplifting, a very positive story that applies to more than your music. Everything he says is accompanied by vibrant music, bass, guitar, even banjo! Never preachy, Victor shares wisdom about 12 elements of music (& life) that are often overlooked in traditional lessons and illustrates them with a diverse cast of unique characters. His delivery is warm animated and filled with humor. I plan to share this book with everyone who'll listen, I think they're in for a treat!

Wow

Should be required reading for all musicians. Plus the audio book version is way more enjoyable than most audiobooks I’ve encountered.

Wooten is a G

Great refresher on why I love music.

This book was recommended to me from my old college sax professor. my only regret is not reading /listening to it sooner!

inspiring, creative, beautiful

absolutely loved it. I love the life lessons, the connection between music, nature and life. Victor's style hints at magical realism. it helped remove mental blocks about being a musician

Beautiful.. :,)

Where does The Music Lesson rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Best so far..

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Music Lesson?

"I am you teacher"

What does Victor L. Wooten bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He himself wrote the book so only he could narrate it the way it had to be narrated.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

So much too digest, you may as well spend your life digesting it.

Any additional comments?

A must for all musicians , "what they dont teach you in the books" in this book. Or should I say "show you"? ;)

So much more than a music lesson!

I was intrigued by the teacher Michael. I think the way he presented his lessons were thought provoking and meaningful. #thoughtprovoking #clever #spiritual #tagsgiving #sweepstakes
