The Curtain Pulled Back!

I'm soon to be 55 and I have enjoyed Star Trek from my first viewing that I can remember in 1970. From whatever anyone else takes from the original series, it gave me hope for the future.
Thank you to everyone from the original series for one hell of a ride!

Great Listen

Would you listen to Star Trek Memories again? Why?

If you're a Star Trek fan, and even if you're not, this is a gripping listen. Shatner's read at times is a little fast (as though he's trying to get it all in within a certain time) but the fact that he's reading it, makes it worthwhile. Great stories and insight for the true fan, or anyone interested in '60s-era television.

Insightful

Brilliant and insightful, this monologue takes you on a journey with a welcomed frankness that only comes from one who lived through it. Plenty of facts of great interest to those trekkers and budding directors alike!
You would definitely listen to it more than once, and it's the perfect companion to his Movie Memories book as well. Time just flies!!!

Behind the scenes at Star Trek The Original Series

A fascinating behind the scenes account of Star Trek The Original Series by someone who was there almost every step of the way, William Shatner. To be fair, I am a lifelong Shatner fan but his memories regarding the origination of Star Trek and his homage to the cast, crew and writers is informative and touching. However, things are not all rosie. He highlights many of the disagreements and struggles with filming and the network. Shatner‘s interviews with all but one of his fellow leading cast members, offers insight into the cultural phenomenon that Star Trek has become. Highly recommended reading!

Interesting, but wooden narration from Shatner

There are some good behind the scenes stories here for Trekkies to enjoy, but Shatner's monotone narration was dissapointing. Worth a listen if you are a die-hard ST fan (and you can get this title on sale).

It was good

Not as entertaining as William Shatner's Movie Memories book but it was good. I take it the was the first of the two so the second one was a much more lively reading. I was a little embarked for some of the other cast members and crew he wrote sarcastically about but I understand that's just Bill's edge. He is trying to relay an important history for Star Trek fans in an honest way. All in all Shatner is a fantastic writer. He's not however shy when it comes to self praise.

A MUST HAVE audiobook for all true Trekkers!!

What made the experience of listening to Star Trek Memories the most enjoyable?

Not only was Shatner's perspective truly informative and a trivia goldmine, his reading of it is witty, tongue in cheek and vastly entertaining!!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Shatner's insight on Gene Rodenberry, the before-his time genius who created Star Trek was a clear and heartfelt homage to a man he respects and owes so much.

Which scene was your favorite?

Shatner covers so many hilarious as well as touching moments it would be hard to single one out, but the infamous "Green skinned Orion Slave Girl" incident has to take the cake!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Shatner remembers SHATNER! (As well as several other cast and crew!!)

Beam me up!

Where does Star Trek Memories rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Star Trek holds a special place in my heart so hearing Shatner reminisce about the origin of Roddenberry's vision, the sibling rivalry between Nimoy and Shatner, the creative highs and lows of the series make this audiobook a top 20 for me, which is not bad considering how many I have in my library.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Kirk and Spock, inseparable.

What about William Shatner’s performance did you like?

I have always enjoyed his speech pattern.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Nope. However, I was intrigued throughout.

Bill Shatner

Bill Shatner was a much better actor than he is a reader. Liked the story but Bill read it so fast and with out any intonation it was hard to enjoy.
