Publisher's summary

In his second book, Adam Carolla - chart-topping podcaster and author of New York Times best seller In Fifty Years We'll All Be Chicks - reveals all the stories behind how he came to be the angry middle-aged man he is today.

Funnyman Adam Carolla is known for two things: hilarious rants about things that drive him crazy and personal stories about everything from his hardscrabble childhood to his slacker friends to the hypocrisy of Hollywood. He tackled rants in his first book, and now he tells his best stories and debuts some never-before-heard tales as well.

Organized by the myriad "dumps" Carolla called home as a child - through the flophouse apartments he rented in his 20s, up to the homes he personally renovated after achieving success in Hollywood - the anecdotes here follow Adam's journey and the hilarious pitfalls along the way.

Adam Carolla started broke and blue collar and has now been on the Hollywood scene for over 15 years. Yet he never lost his underdog demeanor. He's still connected to the working class guy he once was, and delivers a raw and edgy, fish-out-of-water take on the world in which he lives (but with which he mostly disagrees), telling all the stories, no matter who he offends - family, friends or the famous.

Relatable!

The story of Adam's childhood and growing up makes me feel like I'm not alone with messed up parents and a crazy ride through the teenage years. Even better to hear his voice telling the story.

Carolla is just downright funny

If you’re a fan you already know this. If you’re not you should give him a try. You might be surprised at how sharp his observations are.

Great and easy listen

One of my favorite Adam Carolla books. We’ll narrated and written. Fun stories with some motivational thoughts. Well done Mr. Carolla

Fun and funny!

I am supposed to enter at least fifteen words. Sometimes gross, but utterly, ridiculously hilarious!

Not so much a reading…

…as a performance. Adam makes it clear he wasn’t happy with the concept of just reading a book we could buy and read for ourselves so he stops where he wants, goes afield from the text, and includes guests. It’s refreshing and different and enough biography remains to give you insights into Carolla so don’t fear on that score.

Pretty funny but crude

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

It is a humorous look at Adam's strange life. I'd never heard of him before since I'm not a radio listener and not under age 30. He seems to be pretty successful for having such a weird life. And he's kept lots of his old friends, which is surprising considering the stunts they pulled together. Lots of F bomb and scatological material in here.

Would you be willing to try another book from Adam Carolla? Why or why not?

Yes

Have you listened to any of Adam Carolla’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When he talked about how he rates life on how high the mattress is off the floor. His lowlife mom had hers on the floor. At the time I was moving from one rental to another (I own two nice homes with high mattresses, but am living in a temporary rental and my mattress was on the floor. He nailed it dead on!

Any additional comments?

I won't share this book with my mom.

What did you love best about Not Taco Bell Material?

I loved everything about this book!

What other book might you compare Not Taco Bell Material to and why?

I laughed probably more than Tina Feys recent book. It's comedy you can relate too.

What does Adam Carolla bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His voice makes the book.
