Publisher's summary

In his second book, Adam Carolla - chart-topping podcaster and author of New York Times best seller In Fifty Years We'll All Be Chicks - reveals all the stories behind how he came to be the angry middle-aged man he is today.

Funnyman Adam Carolla is known for two things: hilarious rants about things that drive him crazy and personal stories about everything from his hardscrabble childhood to his slacker friends to the hypocrisy of Hollywood. He tackled rants in his first book, and now he tells his best stories and debuts some never-before-heard tales as well.

Organized by the myriad "dumps" Carolla called home as a child - through the flophouse apartments he rented in his 20s, up to the homes he personally renovated after achieving success in Hollywood - the anecdotes here follow Adam's journey and the hilarious pitfalls along the way.

Adam Carolla started broke and blue collar and has now been on the Hollywood scene for over 15 years. Yet he never lost his underdog demeanor. He's still connected to the working class guy he once was, and delivers a raw and edgy, fish-out-of-water take on the world in which he lives (but with which he mostly disagrees), telling all the stories, no matter who he offends - family, friends or the famous.

Great stories from Adam Carolla A.K.A "Ace"

Very Funny stories on his growing up based on what home Adam was living in at the time. Each chapter begins with the house location, purchase price, square footage, bedrooms, and baths. The chapter dealing with his (mis) adventures in Tijuana uses this also (50,000 bedrooms, 1 bathroom). His description of a really bad Christmas tree at one home (so pathetic that Charlie Brown came by to make fun of it) is a classic I'll always remember and borrow from him.

His style is PERFECT! Reading in parts but stopping to expound on points and give more details, this book feels like you are sitting in a bar with Adam having a drink and swapping stories of growing up. After a series of stories about his friend Ray and their adventures, Ray visits the studio and Adam calls him in and they talk about their friendship and the stories Adam had just told.

I had really enjoyed his previous book (In fifty years we'll all be chicks) and was not disappointed. I look forward to his next book!

It really is funny

There are situations he gets himself into that are so hilarious, you can’t make this stuff up . Also this book takes you into an LA / California vibe that’s so cool. Treat yourself to some laugh out loud moments. I have different books I listen to during my daily routine and this is my morning commute book. Makes me look forward to that traffic every morning. I so got used to his voice I’m just starting I’ll be your emotional support animal and I’m loving it . Thanks Adam .

Adam's finest, with an elevating sophistication

Where does Not Taco Bell Material rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

While this is one of my favorite audio books, I never would have been a fan of the pre-Dr. Drew version of Adam Carolla. The wonderful influence of each man's spirit upon the other has tempered their more extreme personality traits, lending sophistication to Adam's surly outlook upon the world and a degree of good natured manly grit to Drew's ultra type A personality.

Good Book

What did you love best about Not Taco Bell Material?

Adam is a great story teller and this book gave you a background of his life through the homes he lived in

Any additional comments?

Most of this material was the same as the last book so I was let down by that he talked about his football in both books. other than that it was a good book especially his crazy friend Ray I can't believe the mess he did back then. I'm also glad to know that he started from the bottom and worked his way up...

It was OK.

What did you like best about Not Taco Bell Material? What did you like least?

I like Carolla's "to the point" bluntness, but it seemed like some of the material was either covered in his previous book or was material that might have been left on the editing floor from the previous book.

Was Not Taco Bell Material worth the listening time?

It was worth listening. Just didn't measure up to his previous book.

Any additional comments?

My expectations might have been high based on his "50 years we'll all be chicks" book. It was OK.

Reading ain't fun-damental, listening is to Ace is

What made the experience of listening to Not Taco Bell Material the most enjoyable?

Ace is the most enjoyable reader.

What other book might you compare Not Taco Bell Material to and why?

The Nerdist Way, written by Chris Hardwick

Although I enjoy Chris, his reading of his book is unlistenable.

Have you listened to any of Adam Carolla’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is equal or better than his previous book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I listen to his podcasts, plural, everyday. It's hard for me to get a extreme reaction to anything he says, but I enjoy his prolonged talks without the distractions.

Any additional comments?

I await his next audiobook.

Fantastic book and narration by author!

Would you listen to Not Taco Bell Material again? Why?

Yes, many great stories, side stories and rants throughout the book. Adam narrating his history contains so much that's interesting and funny, and has a number of different stories and such that aren't in the physical book.

What other book might you compare Not Taco Bell Material to and why?

His other book, in 50 Years We'll all be Chicks contains a lot of Adams views, opinions, etc on a variety of topics, this book does the same, but in a context of his interesting time growing up before really any success.
