Publisher's summary

That stammer. Those basset-hound eyes. That bone-dry wit. There has never been another comedian like Bob Newhart. In this, his first audiobook ever, Newhart gives us his brilliant and bemused twist on a multitude of topics, including flying, the trials of a family holiday in a Winnebago, and more serious subjects, such as golf. And, of course, there are side-splittingly funny stories from his life and career. Who else has a drinking game named after him? ("Hi, Bob!")

This isn't a memoir like most memoirs. It's an audiobook only Bob Newhart could have conceived, with his unique worldview and irrepressibly wry humor. Oh, and there's a fair bit of plain silliness, too.

“I Need To Do This”....

If you don’t know or have never heard of Bob Newhart, listen to this book. Of all the comedic brilliance of his era, I have always believed Bob Newhart stood out from all the rest. His “obligation to make people laugh” is keenly felt in every second of this book.

one of the best ever

I’ve heard so many of Bob’s stories, but they NEVER get old, and I will continue to listen to them over and over again. I have always enjoyed his work, so it’s only natural that I be drawn to the stories behind the work! This was a great book, & it was thoroughly enjoyed.

Great Listen

Would you consider the audio edition of I Shouldn't Even Be Doing This! to be better than the print version?

Yes! Largely due to that fact that you get to hear Bob read it and deliver the comic bits.

What did you like best about this story?

I'm a Newhart fan so it's great to hear him sharing in his on voice.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was laughing at the bits he re-creates.

Any additional comments?

Too funny while driving

If you listen to this book while driving, be forewarned to fits of laughter with eyes closed! Two times I had to stop because I was tickled to tears! I love this guy!

Great book, performance and sketches. Certainly a repeat listen!

A nice mix

This audiobook is a nice mix of Bob's old "Button Down" routines and him telling stories behind them. Couched as a memoir, we also learn a little bit about his life growing-up and our of the spotlight.

Hi Bob!

Started a little slow, but he found his rythem-it picked up speed and substance as Bob read along. Very classy and down to earth guy. Doesn't do politics or swear to get laughter or try to be hip. He's a cool cat. Seinfeld is in the same class with Bob. He said that everyone is funny in different ways, everyone.
