Publisher's Summary

Confessions of a Video Vixen is the widely anticipated memoir of Karrine Steffans, the once-sought-after sexy siren who appeared in the music videos of multi-platinum hip hop artists such as Jay-Z, R. Kelly, and LL Cool J. A top-paid video dancer, Karrine transitioned to film when acclaimed director F. Gary Gray picked her to costar in his film A Man Apart, starring Vin Diesel. But the movie and music video sets, swanky Miami and New York restaurants, and trysts with the celebrities featured in the pages of People and In Touch magazines only skim the surface of Karrine's life.

This memoir, part tell-all, part cautionary tale, shows how Karrine came to be the confidante of so many, why she kept their secrets, and how she found herself in Hollywood after a life marked by physical abuse, rape, and drugs, all before she was 26. By sharing her emotionally charged story, she hopes to shed light on an otherwise romanticized industry.

"It ishard to stop listening to this one"

This audiobook is not just about who she slept with and isn't a tell all to expose everyone she has been with. I was surprised that this audiobook had me listening for nearly 6 hours straight with hardly no breaks. She tells her story well, and what a good story it is. I don't want to give away a thing, but you have to check it out yourself. By the time you finish, you are going to hate her mother, Some guy named Rodney and Kool G Rap for the pain they put this woman through. Check it out, I don't think you'll be dissapointed. I felt the need to actually review this one because it was that good.

    "Excellent"

This is the first audiobook I have ever listened to and I have not attempted to read a book in several years. I found this book to be very interesting and exciting. In fact I Iistened to the entire story in one sitting, as the almost 6 hours past I could not believe it was almost dawn as the story completed. I was able to imagine just about every scene as it occurred. Identifying with the individuals Karrine spoke of made the story that much more intreging. Hearing this story has made me very eager to purchased more audiobooks...so eager that I joined audible.com as a premier member. I have nothing to compare this story to, as I am a first time listener, but I find it to be excellent, detailed, and in awe that someone could have such a extreme life. I was additionally impressed that the narrator is Karrine herself! I am recommending this audiobook to all adults especially those interested in the "celebrity life". I gave it a well deserved 5 stars!

    "Good Book - Bad Narration"

A lot of things have been said about Karrine Steffans in the media both good and bad. I chose this book after watching an account of abuses of females in the Hip Hop culture. After reading this however, I have changed my perception of her as a victim. She's really a self serving egomaniac who believes that she was put on this earth to be taken care of and helped out.

Whether an effect of her early childhood abuse or not is anyone's guess but she's reading her own story here (badly might I add) and really does play the victim while at the same time admitting to having used sex to manipulate men in to taking care of her, giving her money and paying her bills. I do find it courageous that she was willing to call out all of the men who she had affairs with over the years. A very interesting read if you can get over the bad narration.

    "just awful"

this is one of the worst books I've ever read/listen to. The book starts off strong, but the storyline and who she slept with and, when just fell apart. the book is full of contradictions, I found it amazing how this author even kept up with herself. And quite the contrary it certainly is a kiss and tell. I thought I was reading a story of how the hip hop industry took advantage of a young girl, but in listening to the story that idea is questionable? it was very difficult to feel anything for the "character", because you get the feeling that she telling the story more for the sensationalism then really telling a story to "help" other young girls, and someone should have tutored her on how to narrate a book, there were several mispronounced words and someone needs to tell her that it is "ask" not "axe". the content of the books mostly tells how she role played her way through this part of her life, thinking she was something she was not. and sadly she is doing it again with this book.

"If I hear her pronounce "ask" as "axe" one more..."

Couldn't finish. Painfully melodramatic and overreaching. It could have been written by a second grader.

    "Just ok"

I feel Karrine made her own problems and felt everyone should give her hand outs. She's one of thousands who've had a life like this and I don't see anything spectacular about it. The beginning was mostly about her younger life and hating her mother. Then, she goes on to explain how she basically gave her "candy" to any man who'd financially support her or make her name known, like Shaq, Jay Z, Bobby, Ja Rule, Irv Gotti, Ray J, Usher, Fred Durst, P. Diddy (Sean Combs), just to name a few. She hasn't had a REAL job and I don't feel sorry for her dusty self at all. Spending all that time with these men who give two shyts about u, while u let ur nanny and her family raise him. Poor child will be crushed when he's old enuf to read.

    Story
    ""Raw""
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, It really give you an insight into the spirit of a broken soul... How strength and the will to move on can out weight adversity.

What did you like best about this story?

How open the story was presented... Karrine held nothing back, good, bad, or insane, she laid it all out for the listeners...

Did Karrine Steffans do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes, because the only character that mattered was her... But, with that said, I believe it could have been better if someone else narrated the story...

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, this is a book where you actually need to take in what you've just heard, to really realize the magnitude of what was just said. Better in bite size portions...

    Any additional comments?

Very interesting book, especially when she starts naming other famous celebrities and their roles in her life... Good Book...

    "Leaves you wondering?"
What made the experience of listening to Confessions of a Video Vixen the most enjoyable?

I am a reader of educational books, other hardcover books put me to sleep. Listening is so much easier for me.

What did you like best about this story?

The story was good but is all really true?

What about Karrine Steffans’s performance did you like?

The narration in her own voice was excellent.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The moment that stood out for me was the relationship she had with her mother and father. Sad!

This book is good however, it leaves you questioning; "Is any of this stuff true?"
