"It is [Drescher's] storytelling skills and humor that make this uncomplicated book a good read...her one-liners can be priceless." (Publishers Weekly)
"The actress infuses her writing with humor and honesty." (Entertainment Weekly)
You don't need to be a fan of Dresher's to enjoy this book. Did I say 'enjoy'? Yes! I teared up quite often at her reading and laughed with her through the darkly humorous parts. This is a strong lady giving good advice over a nosh at the kitchen table. Don't pass it up- and don't be afraid of almost 3 hours of that voice. I wish there had been more. I didn't know I knew so little about the women's health industry.
If you hate her voice, don't get this book. Personally, I loved the nanny, loved the obvious puns and slapstick comedy of the series. The book really translates Ms Drescher's humour well, and is an inspiration to anyone going through a struggle. She allows herself some slack, lets herself cry and tells us that it is okay to do so. I was impressed with the ease with which the story flowed, being both informative about cancer, treatment and recovery and also about Ms Drescher's personal story. Would listen again. I was frustrated that it was abridged, because what I think are important parts of the book, editors don't always agree, and it irritates me to no end that part of the book is missing. And the transition from cut to cut is always horrendous.
I loved the narration, but I think it is a personal choice!
I did not think I could listen to that voice BUT it really did not annoy me at all. I have great respect for this woman now. This book is for anyone who has a terminal illness or supporting a terminal illness or who could possibly become terminally ill one day. I loved it.
I was happily surprised by this book. I had anticipated a fact filled, boring account of her experience, and yes, i'll admit, i bought it because she was narrating it! But i am glad to say, it was full of emotion, it was entertaining, it was tearjerking, a lot of the time funny, and yes, it had some good information as well about her cancer experience. I was very happy with it, and i listened to it all the way through without skipping around or veering off towards another book....... I wish more authors narrated their own books, it really makes a difference. I felt like i was sharing her experience with her.
I don't have a lot of time to sit and read, I enjoy listening to books in my car or when I'm working out.
Fran is true to herself and not afraid to put it all out there. I also learned a lot about the female body and to trust your gut. I almost cried listening to her talk about Chester.
It's Frans story, she should tell it :)
This book is an enlightening view into the life of Fran Dresher. I was not aware that she had gone through a bout of cancer. I recommend this title to anyone who enjoys Ms. Dresher's style of comedy and dramatic TV roles.
If there are chick-flix, then this one is the ultimate chick-audio. Drescher's reading and story is funny and touching. And if you've heard Enter Whining, (another audiobook CLASSIC), this is the perfect sequel (if only it hadn't been life threatening. As a side note, this is a great primer for how to deal with a biggie illness.
Fran explains with sincerity, honesty and humor what it's like to be diagnosed and treated for uterine cancer. Take advantage of her experiences to help yourself or someone you love deal with this disease. It's a quick listen and worth every minute. Fran, thanks for sharing!
Have always loved books and I find that as I have gotten older I find this way more enjoyable then listening to the radio.
I loved learning more about fran and what she went through and how much she learned about what the effects of her child hood had on her as an adult
The relationship between her and john and How this young guy stepped up and was so much a rock for her, but also How he would not let her get away with treaing him badly.
John and Chester
Age is more then a number
This is a wonderful story and it shows how u have to keep asking the questions and make sure the dr know you are invested in her own health
