Publisher's summary

Who would kill to win a pie competition?

Finding the body was a shock.

When all the clues point her way, Maddie must clear her name.

As the timer ticks down in the race to find the murderer before Maddie’s jailed, or the body count climbs, she enlists the help of her friends — one of the furry variety.

Then there’s the sheriff. While her ex-flame's just as confused, does he really believe she’s innocent?

If only solving murder were as easy as apple pie!

If you love Murder She Wrote, you’ll enjoy Maddie’s style, because she’s not taking no for an answer, either.

The Maple Lane Mysteries are light, cozy mysteries featuring a quirky, cat-loving bakery owner who discovers she’s a talented amateur sleuth.

Each book contains an easy recipe!

Book title is better than the book

The book started slowly with too much background information. The murder didn’t occur until somewhere between a third or halfway through the book. I did not like the main character at all - she was petty, selfish and had zero self awareness. And arrogant, too, if you consider that she thought she could protect the sheriff. (Facepalm). I thought the whodunnit was weak (spoiler alert: it’s lame when the murderer is a new character).

The narration was okay. I got bored with the plot and listened at a high speed just to get through it.

Not For Me

Apple Pie and Arsenic put me to sleep. The pace is slow and the narrator's voice is breathy and annoying. I also didn't feel a connection with the characters. I returned it.

Apple Pie and Arsenic

The MC, Maddie, an accomplished baker working in NYC rushes home after receiving an urgent call from her Gran. After her arrival, Maddie discovers her Gran isn’t seriously ill as she first thought. Instead Gran wants her to move back & start her own bakery there with her Gran’s help. Maddie’s cat, Big Red, has more room to roam which is important to Maddie as well as being there for Gran, so she decides to stay. They buy an old house to remodel that will provide for the bakery downstairs & housing upstairs. Maddie eventually runs into her childhood boyfriend, who is now the town’s Sheriff. Shortly after opening the bakery, Maddie enters a baking contest and wins the pie competition. Upon leaving the event, Maddie discovers the town’s Mayor dead behind her car. As if she hasn’t been busy enough since moving back, she gets involved with the murder investigation. This takes her on a wild ride to discover the murderer and puts her, her Gran and others in serious danger. A good read!
