Publisher's summary

A spinster hatches a plan (with a smattering of blackmail)

Miss Augusta Widmore has no time for proprieties. She must force her sister's ne'er-do-well betrothed to the altar with all haste - or watch her sister bear the scandalous consequences. But with the blackguard resisting his duty, she needs leverage. And only one man can provide it.

A giant holds all the cards (or so he thinks)

Sebastian Reaver has no time for presumptuous women. He has a club to run. So, when a perfect nuisance invades his office, demands a fortune in markers, and refuses to leave until he relinquishes them to her, he knows just the thing to send her scurrying back to Hampshire: Exact a price this prim country spinster would never agree to pay. A fiery battle begins (with both sides playing for keeps)

Ordinarily, Augusta would never agree to become the mistress of a notorious club owner - whether he's a lowborn ruffian or the wealthiest man in London or the most intriguing, ill-tempered giant she's ever encountered...or all three. Calling his bluff raises the stakes (and the heat), but retreat will mean ruin for Augusta. Now, Sebastian wants her total surrender, and he has a few tricks up his sleeve - soul-stealing kisses, unexpected honor, and electrifying persuasion for the woman he never saw coming.

Contains mature themes.

Funny, Romantic,, Sexy, and Light on Dithering

This book includes not one but two attractive heros and one strong, funny heroine. The wimp dithering heroine these books require is happily secondary and offset by her lover.

Loved this one! Small mystery

Big romance! Great love story and a second one too. Low angst and time with the mc after they are together. All in all exactly the kind of historical romance that I love.

Really fun and unique story!

I found these two to be very likable characters! The premise of taking a mistress was a great way to start the book, especially with Augusta’s nonchalant acceptance. I also loved how they each arrived at the same conclusion that they wanted to keep an marry the other around the same time but didn’t realize the other felt the same way! This wasn’t a super angsty romance, I thought that they fell in love naturally and easily but the drama with Augusta’s sister drove a lot of the story and I was so pleased she got her HEA too!

Absolutely Adore This Series ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The author, Elisa Braden, has delivered another delightful book and the eloquent narrator, Mary Sarah, presents an equally wonderful tale about love and sacrifices between two sisters.

I’m so glad that I didn’t fully read the negative comments about the narrator being “too breathy “ . Clearly they haven’t been accustomed to The Regency genre. Take that into account when there is clearly a need for one to loose their breath, aye.

Fun and Satisfying

Not filled with the flowery prose as her previous books, though it would be misplaced in this story. I give credit to Elisa for deliberate application. It is also not filled with sex scenes that go on forever and describe every gross bodily noise. I am grateful for that.

I think the narrator is most talented. She is able to convey subtle nuances by delivering the lines exactly the way different characters would in given situations. She is an entire cast. When Augustus rages at Ash’s cruel abuser, you can see the room turn red from her pov. It’s the result of a good marriage between writer and narrator.

Enjoying the series immensely.

Quite the Community

This series continues to enjoyable and amusing. I truly like the community of characters and how they are related whether it be familial or through friendships. This builds a deeper insight into the characters, especially when such a character plays a secondary role after s/he played a bc main role in an alternate story. On to #8 in the Rescue from Ruin series.

Regency romance eyerolls double down for the win!

Not just bloody hell, but “bloody bleeding hell!”
This is currently free in Audible Plus, otherwise you should get this as part of the Volume 3 collection.

“That is no answer you giant, surprise spoiling, presumptuous man!”
This was my favorite of the whole series because it embraces all of the tropes in regency romance and then doubles down. Yes, it’s over the top. Yes, it’s not very credible. Yes, I loved every outlandish minute.

Augusta: “Devil!”
Sebastian: “Nuisance!”
Ah, hate flirting, my favorite kind of foreplay. Compared to the other books, the sex is on the slow burn and kind of tame side, but that’s because there’s more story to squeeze in. There’s a street urchin,
a second romantic pairing and too many well meaning interlopers.
Bumped to 1.5x, the saucy, wink and a nod narration was perfect, as were the cheeky Wallingham intros.
A five bon bon confection of a listen!
