Publisher's summary

Waking up covered in blood is never a good thing.

We’ve all had that nightmare. You wake up in a strange place with no memory of how you got there. There’s blood on your hands, and you’re overwhelmed by fear — until you realize it’s not yours. It’s then you see your victim in a pool of blood, you’re holding the murder weapon, and your only relief is waking up with a scream trapped in your throat.

But for Stan Watson, there is no waking from this nightmare, because it’s real. And it’s happened before, at least three times. He’s a serial killer, though he doesn’t remember having done any of the deeds. His victims are strangers to him, and he has no motive for what he’s done.

Fearing he will kill again, Stan is in a race against the clock to find out why he’s become a one-man killing machine, before he takes another life — or the police show up at his front door. Can he cobble the pieces of the puzzle together before it’s too late?

Whoa

Bloody, violent, and twisty.
The story was short but pretty straightforward.
I loved the ending.
Perfect listen if you're looking for something to give you a lot of chills in a short amount of time.

Intrguing Premise but a bit Predictable

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and any opinions expressed herein are my own.

This is a quick story which has an intriguing premise, good dry humor and a likeable MC. However, it was a bit predictable and the ending was a very quick wrap up.

The MC is a male and is told in the first person. The book is narrated by Ann Bumbak, a female, so that slightly threw me as I was listening to the story. While she did a fine job, the female narration took me out of the story a bit.

Enjoyable distraction

A Shattered Mind is enjoyable enough short story, however I can't rate it higher than 3 stars. While it was a fun story, it was also quite predictable and I could see what was coming from a mile away. That doesn't mean I didn't like it, it just held no surprises. Also I really have nothing bad to say about the narrator, Ann Bumbak, but since the story is told totally from the main character's POV, a male character, it just seems like a odd choice. I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
