Publisher's summary

In March 2000, 20-year-old Brandon Colbeck left home to find himself on a self-proclaimed “fool’s journey.” No one — not friends or family — have seen or heard from him since, until a phone call from a man claiming to be Brandon brings the case back to the forefront. Calamity (Callie) Barnstable and her team at Past & Present Investigations have been hired to find out what happened to Brandon and where he might be.

As Callie follows a trail of buried secrets and decades-old deceptions, only one thing is certain: Whatever the outcome, there is no such thing as closure.

Callie figures it out again!

Callie is roped into another investigation as part of an agreement in her late grandmothers estate. She and her friends at Past and Present investigate the disappearance of a young man from over a decade ago. She comes across many loose ends and several new mysteries arise to which she begins her own side investigation. I really enjoy this series, they are unique and clever mysteries that keep you guessing. The only criticism I have is that there is a new narrator for every book. It would be nice if they would just stick with one as a narrator is what brings the story and characters to life. This narrator was good, but I did prefer the previous books narrator better. Overall will listen again and continue with the series. I received a free review copy of this book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Gone but Not Forgotten

As a requirement of her Grandmother's will, Callie takes on a missing person's case that takes her from Barrie to Toronto uncovering family secrets in unexpected cases.
Well written and as impeccably researched as all of Judy Penz Sheluk's books, this one is a roller coaster ride that explores the dynamics of dysfunctional families and the heartbreak of not knowing what ever happened to a missing family member.
A cozy mystery that's not quite so cozy, this was a thoroughly enjoyable read, compassionately and expertly read by Karen Satter.

Well crafted

The third Marketville Mystery book continues the interesting and well written story of Callie, owner of Past & Present. This time, she has been asked to look into the disappearance of Brandon, grandson of Callie's great-grandmother's friend at the nursing home.  Judy Penz Sheluk is her usual detail oriented self in developing a plot full of tarot cards, tattoos and family secrets.  I'm enjoying the well crafted work.

There was a different narrator for this book and at first I wasn't sure I liked her. Only because I was used the previous narrator, but by the end of the book I had forgotten the difference in the voice, and she did quite a good job.

A well-written blend of fact & fiction

A Fool’s Journey (Marketville Mystery #3), my fourth enjoyable mystery read from author Judy Penz Sheluk. Well-written read with interesting characters. 7-hours 4-minutes of enjoyment. No spoilers here, buy the book, read & review the book. I was given an Audible copy of this after reading & reviewing the first 2 books in her Marketville Mystery series. Now I'm voluntarily reading & reviewing this. Karen Satter’s narration adds to the book's enjoyment. I look forward to reading more from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Good story

I liked the beginning and the ending the best. I got a little lost in the middle with the verbiage. Good but sad story. A little wordy in the middle, but a good story.

INTERESTING

Well written, interesting mystery. The characters are well written, the plot is interesting as well as entertaining. The subject matter is very heart touching and well played out. also uses realistic facts and internet references to help aid with the plot. The use of a Canadian accent from the narrator was great.

A good listen.

I enjoyed this book a lot. Along with a good story, it sheds light on missing adults and how they fall through the cracks in the justice system. The history of Tarot was an added bonus that I enjoyed as well.

I was given a free download of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Missing

The third Marketville Mystery book and the third that I have listened to explores the dynamics of a dysfunctional family. As a requirement of her Grandmother's will, Callie asked to look into the disappearance of Brandon, grandson of her great-grandmother's friend at the nursing home. Brandon left home as a young man and had not been heard from in over 20 years. As usual I enjoyed all the characters and found the story interesting. Again the narration was excellent. Really good except for....

The story itself is great, and I'd highly recommend the written book. The audiobook? Not so much. There are some glaring editing errors where the phrases are repeated rather than spliced together correctly. The narrator is okay at best. Not the greatest and detracted a bit from the story. So, buy the kindle version! Ha, ha, ha. Now, on to the good bits: The story was well written. I loved the mystery of it all, and there were enough twists that it kept it interesting without getting too bogged down. The lead character, Callie, is a strong woman approaching middle age. Her cohorts that help run the business are older as well. The mystery was tight, the life stories and "real" things going on were all believable and brought everything to "life." I really liked it.
